PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting to the West Coast to close out the 2019 USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series schedule, Tanner Carrick and his Keith Kunz Motorsports team were in action at Arizona Speedway for the Western World’s where Carrick’s Friday night podium would highlight his weekend.

“It was a fun weekend in Arizona,” Tanner Carrick said. “We ran the midget and I was also able to make my first USAC National Sprint Car Series start as well and get a taste of non wing 410 racing.”

Getting Friday night started off well, the Lincoln, CA driver timed the Craftsman/CVC/TRD backed No. 71K machine in fifth fastest amongst the 30 drivers checked into the pit area.

Heat race action saw the youngster pick up a third place finish as he chased Andrew Layser and Jason McDougal across the stripe to transfer himself directly into the feature event.

Lining up fourth in the feature event, Carrick would do a great job on the slick surface as he battled with the likes of Zeb Wise, Carson Macedo, and KKM teammate Logan Seavey.

Keeping his machine in the mix, Carrick would cap his Friday night with a third place finish.

Saturday night’s finale saw Carrick get the night started off by timing in 14thfastest in time trials. Finishing fifth in his heat race, Carrick would earn the direct transfer into the feature where he took the green flag from the 13thstarting position.

Following some very light track work, Carrick would hit the speedway and look to work his way through the field on a surface that was tough to pass on. Patiently picking up a few positions, Carrick worked his way into he Top-10 where he would go on to take the checkered flag as he now looks forward his first midget start at Placerville Speedway this week.

Carrick was also in action with the USAC National Sprint Car Series over the weekend as he made his first non wing 410 start aboard the Tanner Carrick Racing No. 83T machine.

During his debut on Friday night, Carrick would take some time getting adapted to the car as he timed in 24thfastest in time trials, and finished seventh in his heat race.

Moving into the night’s ‘B’, Carrick continued to feel out the non wing car as he would close Friday out finishing 10thin the semi.

After timing in 30thon Saturday, Carrick  would finish eighth in his heat race and again head into the nightly ‘B’ Main. Just as he did on Friday, Carrick would log some solid laps in the semi as his night would again come to a close with a 10thplace finish in the ‘B’.

“Thanks to everyone who makes all of this possible,” Carrick said. “Was fun to go non wing racing with the USAC Series, and was another pretty good weekend in the midget. Looking forward to getting up to Placerville this week.”

Tanner Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team would like to thank Craftsman, CVC, TRD, Spike Chassis, Cemex, Arai, and Shell Shock for their support.
