PETERSEN MEDIA: After taking his lumps and acclimating to some off season changes while running with the World of Outlaws, Sean Watts kicked his 2018 King of the West campaign off Sunday in Bakersfield, CA and after getting off to a nice start a lap five mistake would bring his night to an early end.

“I thought we were really good all night long, and it made some of those long nights with the Outlaws worth it,” Sean Watts said. “Unfortunately I pushed the issue a little to hard on the fifth lap and got upside down and ended our night, but like I said I was really happy with the speed and fell of the racecar.”

Waiting an extra day to kick off the 2018 King of the West season, the curtain went up on Sunday at Kern County Raceway Park with 22 fire breathing 410’s checked into the pit area.

Timing the Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction backed No. 98 entry in ninth fastest in qualifying time trials, the Atwater, CA pilot would pocket a third place finish in his heat race.

With a new points structure in place in 2018 to make up the Dash cars, Watts would come up short on being eligible and would line up in the ninth starting position for the 30-lap feature event.

When the green flag was displayed to the field, Watts would take advantage of being in the bottom groove and would work into the eighth spot before taking over seventh on the third circuit.

Running comfortably in the Top-10, Watts would battle for sixth on the fifth lap but would get into the corner a little too hot and it would result in him getting the Billet America/Varni Electric/Kaeding Performance backed entry upside down and ending his night.

Watts would be credited with a 21st place finish.

“It is definitely not how I wanted my night to end, but we put it behind us and look forward to the next one,” Watts said. “Hopefully we can keep making progress and getting better and better each night. Thanks to everyone for their hard work.”

Sean and the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports team would like to thank Grizzly Coolers, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Rolfe Construction, Billet America, Darrel Varni Electric, Kaeding Performance, Shannon Pumps, Stealth Homes, Tee’s and Tops, Team Simpson, Kistler Racing Engines, and Stan Yockey Motorsports for their continued support.
