Quick Start Ends Rough in Antioch For Cody Lamar

PETERSEN MEDIA- For the second week in a row Cody Lamar found himself battling up front. A week after leading laps at Placerville Speedway, Lamar was battling in the top-three with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Antioch Speedway until issues on the 23rd lap resulted in him getting upside down.

“Our night started out great, but it didn’t quite end how we had hoped,” Cody Lamar said.

29 cars checked into Antioch Speedway on Saturday night for the sixth SCCT event and Lamar would open things up by timing in third fastest in his qualifying group.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Sacramento, CA pilot would take care of business and pick up the win and make himself eligible for the nightly Dash. Finishing sixth in the Dash, Lamar would grid the field from the third row for the scheduled 40-lap feature event aboard the A1 Septic/Joe Hunt Magnetos/NAAKE Suspension backed No. 9L.

As the race got underway, Lamar would battle inside the top five as he chased after the likes of Steven Tiner, Willie Croft, and Ryan Bernal who all raced hard right in front of him.

On this night, stoppages would hamper much of the race, and restarts would play a big part in how things shook out. Working his way up to the third spot, Lamar would chase after the lead duo of Jonathan Allard and Kyle Hirst.

Racing hard for position as the race drew to a close, issues in turns three and four would result in Lamar tripping over the cushion and getting his machine upside down which brought his night to an end.

“We got to racing three-wide and I got stuck in the middle of a battle and got into the cushion wrong and got over,” Lamar said. “We had a really fast car all night long, and hopefully we can rebound and have the same speed at Calistoga this weekend.”

Cody and his team would like to thank A1 Septic, Joe Hunt Magnetos, and NAAKE Suspension for their continued support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-11, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 4, Top 10’s-5

ON TAP: Lamar is set to be in action on Saturday night as he returns to action with the SCCT at the famed Calistoga Speedway.
