Richard Vander Weerd Charges To Third at Keller Auto Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Bouncing back from a tough race last week at the Santa Maria Speedway, Richard Vander Weerd turned in a strong showing at the Keller Auto Speedway on Saturday night that saw him earn a third place finish.

“We didn’t get off to a great start in time trials, but we had a pretty good car in the feature, and luckily we were able to work our way forward,” Richard Vander Weerd said.

Timing his Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 10 machine in 13th quickest in qualifying time trials, Vander Weerd would race his way to a fourth place finish during his heat race.

Lining up 10th in the 30-lap feature event, Vander Weerd admittedly had a really good car in the early part of the race. Working his way forward, Vander Weerd would make his way into the top five, before his car started to get tight as it changed with the track.

Adapting to the tight car, Vander Weerd still did what he needed to do to move forward as he found himself battling with his brother, Jace. Moving into the third spot, Vander Weerd would hound J. Vander Weerd for the second spot as the came to an end.

Trying feverishly to overtake the second spot, Vander Weerd would come up short, though he would still earn a spot on the podium by way of a third palce finish.

“We had a really good car when the race started and I thought we would have something at the end, but we got really tight,” Vander Weerd said. “To start 10th and come up to third is still a really good night, and hopefully we can keep rolling the right direction this weekend.”

Richard and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2016.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-15, Wins-2, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-11.

ON TAP: Richard will battle with the USAC/CRA Series this coming Saturday and Sunday night as they invade both the Santa Maria Speedway and the Perris Auto Speedway.
