PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting another night of action in with the USAC West Coast 360 series on Saturday night in Hanford, CA, Richard Vander Weerd would turn in a hard fought performance that saw him pick up a 10th place finish.

“It was just one of those nights,” Richard Vander Weerd said. “We were finally able to make up ground then we got ran over late and had to come from the back.”

Saturday night in Hanford, CA, Vander Weerd opened his night up by timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Mid-Valley Pipe backed No. 10 machine in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials.

Finishing in the third spot during his heat race, the Visalia, CA driver would line his Vander Weerd Racing entry up in the fourth row for the feature event on an extremely hooked up racing surface.

As the race got underway, Vander Weerd would settle into the seventh spot as passing was extremely tough on this night. Fighting with a couple of cars in front of him for position for several laps, Vander Weerd would move into the sixth spot and made a would then make a bid for fifth.

Trying to complete the pass, contact from his competitor would see his left rear tire go flat and he would have to make a trip to the work area with just a few laps left in the race.

Able to make repairs, Vander Weerd would make the best of a tough situation as he picked up a couple of positions to finish 10th.

“It was one of those tracks where you really had to take advantage of an opening to make up ground, and had to be patient” Vander Weerd added. “We got the short end of the stick, but we will be back on Saturday.”

Richard and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2017.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-6, Wins-1, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-5.
