PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking to the lightening fast Keller Auto Speedway on Saturday night, Richard Vander Weerd and his Vander Weerd Racing team were in action with the USAC West Coast 360 Series and the Visalia, CA driver would pick up a third place finish.

“The track was really good all night long, and that made it tough to pass on,” Vander Weerd said. “Everyone was the same speed, and we would finish in the third spot.”

With a light car count on hand to open up the month of August in Hanford, CA, Vander Weerd, who sits second in series points, would time the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 10 machine in fifth fastest.

Though it was extremely fast in heat race action, the track would be very smooth as Vander Weerd settled into fifth. With the fourth place car having issues in front of him, Vander Weerd would opt to take himself out of harms way and pull his machine into the pit area and save his equipment for the feature event.

Lining up on the front row of the feature event, Vander Weerd would push up the track in the first corner and allow Danny Faria by as he slipped back to the third spot.

Spending the rest of the race trying to get back by Faria, and then DJ Johnson, Vander Weerd would stay secure in the third spot, where he would end up finishing.

“I have to thank my guys for their hard work,” Vander Weerd said. “It was a light car count in all the divisions so the track never really wore out and passing was tough.”

Richard and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-31, Wins-6, Top 5’s-15, Top 10’s-19.

ON TAP: Richard and the Vander Weerd Racing team will return to action on August 14th at the Keller Auto Speedway for a night of winged action before heading to the Perris Auto Speedway on the 15th to take on the USAC/CRA Series.
