Ennis, Nichols, and DeArmond Also Take Home Hardware
Hanford, CA- Playing host to the USAC West Coast 360’s on Saturday night, fans at the Keller Auto Speedway were treated to a great night of racing as Richard Vander Weerd made a last lap, last corner pass to pick up the race win. In the supporting divisions, wins would go to Chris Ennis, Loren DeArmond, and Josh Nichols.
When the USAC West Coast 360’s feature event came to life, it was second row starter, Mike Spencer, jumping out to the early lead, as Danny Faria and Richard Vander Weerd wasted no time getting to front.
A very racy 3/8 mile surface greeted the racers, and drivers had multiple line options as the fast and furious feature event got into lapped traffic quickly. As Spencer continued to lead the way up front, he would feel heavy pressure from Danny Faria, as Richard Vander Weerd had a front row seat of the action in the third spot.
With Spencer using the high side of the speedway, Faria took a liking to the bottom, and was able to take the lead for good after a torrid battle on the 18th lap.
With the top three racing wheel-to-wheel in lapped traffic, Vander Weerd would use the cushion to get around Spencer for the second spot on lap 20, as the non-stop affair continued at a quick pace.
Chasing down Danny Faria, Vander Weerd would continue to relentlessly work up top. Taking the white flag in the second spot, Vander Weerd would pull along side the race leader heading down the back stretch, and staying committed to the top coming out of turn four, Vander Weerd would bring the crowd to their feet as he was able to get the bite he was looking for and pick up the win in thrilling fashion.
Faria would hang on to finish in the second spot, while Brody Roa, Mike Spencer, and Trey Marcham rounded out the Top-Five.
Not to be out done, the RaceSaver 305 feature event would come down to a very exciting finish. Jessie Mack would jump into the lead on the sixth lap, as Blake Robertson and Chris Enniswould run in the second and third.
Mack would see his sizeable lead disappear, as Robertson was able to reel him in. As the duo battled for the lead, they would get together and bring out the caution with just five laps to go. A light car count would see Robertson jump back into the third spot on the restart, as he took second on lap 23 as he chased after new leader, Chris Ennis. With Robertson closing in on Ennis on the last lap, Ennis was able to fend him off and win by less than a car length, as Blaine Fagundes, and Jesse Mack rounded out the top five.
Josh Nichols dominated the Mini Stock feature event. From his front row starting spot, Nichols would get on the loud pedal when he saw the
