PETERSEN MEDIA: In the Micro Sprint world, the Christmas Holiday brings joy to the community as it simply means the Tulsa Shootout is quickly approaching. Following a strong 2017 campaign, JJ Ringo had a chance to compete at the Tulsa Shootout, and looking back at the week of racing Ringo was pleased with how it went.
“2017 was a really good year, and I am looking forward to seeing what we can do in 2018,” Ringo said. “I started the year off in my won car was able to pick up some wins, and it proved to be good enough to earn a ride with the Bright’s, and I could not be more thankful for the opportunity they provided me with.”
Ringo’s 2017 campaign was indeed a strong one that saw the driver pick up eight feature event wins in 30 starts over the state of California. Some notable wins for Ringo include a CA Speedweek feature event win at Delta Speedway in Stockton, CA as well as claiming the Turkey Bowl title.
Delta Speedway proved to be good to Ringo as five of his eight wins came at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds facility, while the other three came at Dixon Speedway.
After winning the most non wing features at Delta Speedway in 2017, Ringo headed back to Tulsa, OK where he looked to snag his first career Golden Driller.
Competing in the Stock Non Wing Division as well as the Outlaw Non-Wing Division, Ringo performed well in both classes.
In Stock Non Wing action, Ringo got off to a great start by drawing the pole for his heat race. Taking advantage of the prime starting position, Ringo was able to earn first place points by way of his win and move into a qualifier where he lined up in the eighth starting position and raced his way to a second place finish.
Sitting eighth in points after heats and qualifiers, Ringo advanced to the feature event where he would take the green flag from the fourth row.
Getting off to a strong start in the Championship feature, Ringo would run well inside the Top-10 against some of the biggest names in the micro scene. Running the top, Ringo would admittedly get into the cushion too hard on a few occasions and it would result in him losing track position.
Doing what he would, Ringo would slip back towards the end of the feature and finish 21st.
The Outlaw Non-Wing portion of the week saw Ringo line up in the ninth starting position. Trying to get as many points as he could to advance into a qualifier, Ringo’s sixth place finish would ultimately force him into the ‘C’ Main.
Starting on the pole of the ‘C’, Ringo would pick up the win and move into the ‘B’ where he would hopefully keep his weekend going and advance into a Last Chance Qualifier.
Gridding the field from the 13th starting position, Ringo would have a great charge to the front. Picking up spots feverishly, Ringo would end his week with a fifth place finish in the semi, missing a transfer by just three positions.
“To go back there and make the feature in my first shootout against over 280 cars is pretty cool,” Ringo added. “I just have to thank everyone that made all of this possible.”
