Robert Ballou Records Pair of Top-10’s as USAC Slate Resumes

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to action for the first time since hitting the dirt in Florida back in February, Robert Ballou picked up a pair of Top-10’s as USAC resumed its campaign in Bloomington, IN and Haubstadt, IN.

“Friday night I thought we were really good, but we broke a Jacob’s Ladder in the feature and went downhill in a hurry,” Ballou said. “Saturday night we were just kind of average. Tri-State Speedway added some new dirt to the track this winter and it held water pretty well and I fought being too tight late in the night.”

Checking in at Bloomington Speedway on Friday night, a reconfigured bullring saw ‘The Mad Man’ timed the Suburban Subaru/Deaton’s Waterfront Service/Rossie Feed and Grain backed No. 12 in 13th fastest in time trials.

Picking up the heat race win, Ballou was locked into the feature event as he rolled off the starting grid from the eighth starting position.

When the race came to life, Ballou felt pretty sports as he battled inside the Top-10 and worked his way towards the Top-Five. Just before the halfway point of the feature event, Ballou would break a Jacob’s Ladder, and it changed the handling of his car and the complexion of his race.

With a very tight car underneath him, Ballou manhandled it around the ¼ mile bullring for much of the race as he fought hard to stay inside the Top-10. When the checkered flag was displayed to the field, Ballou came home in eighth.

Trekking to Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN on Saturday night for another round of AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series action, the Rocklin, CA native timed in 20th fastest.

In an early hole, Ballou was able to dig out a little in heat race action as he picked up the win which vastly improved his feature event starting position.

Rolling off of the starting grid from the eighth spot, Ballou couldn’t quite get moving forward as he has typically been able to at Tri-State Speedway over the years.

Holding the status quo inside the Top-10, Ballou would battle a tight car as he ultimately picked up a ninth-place finish.

“We just didn’t quite have our car right in the feature, and when you are too tight there it really hinders you,” Ballou said. “It was great to get back racing and looking forward to heading to Texas next week.”

Robert Ballou would like to thank Suburban Subaru, Deaton’s Waterfront Service, Rossie Feed and Grain, Berks Western Telecom, Inc., Dan Roberts Motorsports, Dragonfly Aviation, Hinchman Indy, Don Ott Racing Engines, Manvel Motorsports, CSI Shocks, Walker Performance Filtration, Amsoil Inc, Murray’s Body Shop, Pacific Grass and Turf, MPHG Promotions Inc, Team Jack Foundation, Olson Custom Design, Konnected Clothing, Hooker Harness, Indy Race Parts, Hoosier Tire, Schoenfeld Headers, ISC Racers Tape, Chalk Racing Products, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Saldana Racing Products, Moose Blocks, Inc., AO Designs, and Arai Helmets for their support.
