PETERSEN MEDIA: After struggling at a pair of Indiana bullrings last weekend with the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series, Robert Ballou decided to check in at Gas City I-69 Speedway on Friday night to try a few things to better his bullring program, and he would proceed to charge from 14th to finish second.

“It was a good night for us to shake some things down on a short track,” Robert Ballou said. “I really felt like we had a car to win, but I made a couple mistakes chasing after Scotty Weir, and he did a really good job.”

After having success on bigger venues thus far in 2021, Ballou made the decision to check in at Gas City late on Friday afternoon as the team had finished preparing for the scheduled event in Knoxville, IA on Saturday night.

Finishing fourth in his heat race, the Rocklin, CA native turned Tipton, IN resident would grid the field from the 14th starting position aboard the Suburban Subaru/Deaton’s Waterfront Service/Rossie Feed and Grain machine.

When the action went green, the ‘Madman’ lived up to his nickname as he went to work on the field passing cars at both ends of the speedway lap after lap.

Able to put his mount on both the bottom groove as well as on the Gas City I-69 Speedway cushion, Ballou was able to make headway as he wasted to time getting into the Top-Five.

As Ballou gave chase to Scotty Weir, a late caution would put him on the leaders rear bumper. Keeping pace with Weir, a couple of bobbles would see Ballou get his right rear over the edge of the speedway on a couple of occasions just slightly enough to allow Weir to get away.

When the race ended, Ballou capped off a very nice charge through the field with a second-place finish.

“We definitely learned some things about our car, and that was the main reason to race on Friday night,” Ballou said. “We definitely wanted to get the win, and that is on me for making a couple of mistakes. I want to thank everyone who continues to support our race team and help us get better week by week.”

Robert Ballou would like to thank Suburban Subaru, Deaton’s Waterfront Service, Rossie Feed and Grain, Berks Western Telecom, Inc., Jamie Davidson Scrap Metal, Hinchman Indy, Don Ott Racing Engines, Manvel Motorsports, Olson Custom Design, Konnected Clothing, Hooker Harness, Indy Race Parts, Hoosier Tire, Schoenfeld Headers, ISC Racers Tape, Chalk Racing Products, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Saldana Racing Products, Moose Blocks, Inc., JE Pistons, AO Designs, Abreu Vineyards, and Arai Helmets for their support.

ON TAP: Ballou’s next event will be back at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, IN on Friday July 23rd as Indiana Sprint Week comes to life.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-29, Wins- 2, Top 5’s- 10, Top-10’s- 21
