PETERSEN MEDIA- In action with the Civil War Series on Saturday night, Shawn Wright had a rough one during the 55th Johnny Key Classic that saw him come up short from transferring to the feature event.
“It was just a really bad night overall,” Shawn Wright said. “A late number hurt us, but we still had pretty good speed all night.”
Timing the Wright Process Systems/A.R.T./Wilwood backed No. 99 machine in 23rd fastest, Wright would line up sixth in the third heat race.
Getting ran over by a fellow driver at the start of his heat race, Wright would make some swift moves to get back up to third and battle for the final transfer position into the feature event.
Battling with Austin Liggett for the spot, Wright would get out of shape a touch on the extremely slick Ocean Speedway and slip back to finish in the fifth spot.
Heading to one of the twin B-Main events, Wright would have bad luck as two cut tires would force him into the 10-lap Last Chance Showdown for one last chance to race into the A Main.
Lining up in the third row, Wright would run in fifth for the duration of the race as track prep prior to the LCS would see the track hook back up and make passing very difficult.
“We just had some bad luck running in a transfer spot, and then couldn’t get going in to two non-qualifier races,” Wright said. “I was happy with the speed, and hopefully we can run well at the Silver Dollar Speedway next week.”
Wright Motorsports would like to thank Wright Process Systems, A.R.T., Wilwood, Hixco, Wesmar Racing Engines, Super Shox, Larry Davis Farms, Kevin Sharrah Designs, DMI, HRP Racing Products, Viking Engineering, and Dan Olson Race Products for their support in 2015.
