PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night, Ryan Bernal and Tarlton Motorsports checked in at Ocean Speedway to take part in the 59thAnnual Johnny Key Classic where Bernal would take home an eighth place finish as he now turns his attention back to the King of the West Series with Speedweek kicking off this week.”
“It was a pretty decent night for our race team,” Ryan Bernal said. “We started the night really well by winning our heat and the Dash, but in the feature I dropped a few spots early and then the rubber came in and there wasn’t a whole lot we could do.”
Timing the Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum backed No. 21 machine in 12thfastest in qualifying time trials, Bernal would flex his muscle in heat race action and pick up the win on an extremely slick Ocean Speedway surface.
Moving into the Dash, Bernal would continue to have a very strong night, as he would pick up the win, and put the potent Tarlton Motorsports machine on the pole of the 50-lap feature event.
When the feature event came to life, Bernal would slip back a few positions as patience would be the game plan for the extended feature on this night. Even with pre race track prep, the surface would blow off quickly and things would get extremely slick in the first 25-laps of the race.
Back in eighth when the red flag flew for the scheduled stop, rubber would go down when the race came back to life. Unable to do much once the rubber was down, Bernal would hang on to pocket an eighth place finish during the track’s crowned jewel event.
“You hate to go backwards when you’re starting up front, but in a long race like that you have to play it smart and it just didn’t work out with the rubber going down,” Bernal said. “Really excited about four straight KWS races this week starting Wednesday night. Thanks to Paul Baines, the Tarlton Family, and everyone that plays a part in supporting myself and this team.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, NOS Energy Drink, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
