PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking advantage of a 360ci show at Stockton Dirt Track this past Saturday night leading up to this weekend’s King of the West opener at the same facility, Tarlton Motorsports and Ryan Bernal made their debut together to shakedown their entry and came home with a second place finish.
“I really felt like we were really fast right out of the box, and as a driver that is a great feeling,” Ryan Bernal said. “Paul Baines and Tyrone Tyra gave me a good car all night long, and I am really happy with our first outing.”
Running a two-heat race format on Saturday, Bernal would find himself starting back in eighth during his first heat aboard the Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum No. 21 machine.
Running a patient race on an extremely slick surface, the Hollister, CA native would work his way forward and gain valuable points by way of a third place finish.
The second round of heat races would see Bernal up on the front row, and with another strong run that culminated with a second place finish, he would find himself in the main event redraw.
Finding himself with the four pill, Bernal would line the Bandy and Associates/NOS Energy Drink/All Star Performance machine up in the second row for his first 30-lap feature of the season.
Settling into third in the opening laps of the race, Bernal would make a bid for second on the race’s second lap only to see his attempt countered as he slipped back to third.
A lap three restart would see him catch a rut getting into turns one and two and he would lose a couple of spots, but would keep his composure and quickly race his way back up to third as he chased after Tony Gualda and Andy Forsberg.
Racing amidst slower cars in the race’s closing laps, Bernal would reel Forsberg in and actually get by him on the white flag lap to bring the Tarlton Motorsports machine home second in the team’s first night out together.
“It was great to get back to racing, and I am really excited for the year ahead,” Bernal added. “I have to thank Tom, and Tommy Tarlon, as well as everyone at Tarlton Motorsports for a great opportunity as well as letting me get some laps before our point season starts on Saturday night.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, NOS Energy Drink, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
