PETERSEN MEDIA- With big money on the line and a chance to battle with the USAC National Sprint Car Series, Ryan Bernal and his Mike Phulps Motorsports team made the trip to the Badlands Motor Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota and went on to pick up a fourth place finish during the Rock-N-Roll Gold Cup.

“I was really proud of our team for making some noise with the USAC National series,” Ryan Bernal said. “It was a tough weekend of racing, and I thought it went really well for us.”

Saturday night would be qualifying night for the USAC portion of the event, and the Hollister, CA driver would time the Metal Works/S&S Automotive/DMI backed No. 56 machine in 13th quickest.

Working his way to a third place finish in heat race action, Bernal would move into the feature event where he would grid the field from the 13th starting spot for the 25-lap feature event.

With each position being so valuable for Sunday night’s big money program, Bernal would stand tall with some of the nation’s top non winged sprint car drivers as he fought his way forward to finish in the seventh spot, and solidify a spot in Sunday night’s all-important scramble.

An exacting battle in Sunday night’s A scramble would see Bernal get the best of a tight battle, as his third place finish would line him up in the second row for the 35-lap $50,000-to-win feature event.

On a track that offered multiple grooves, Bernal would find himself in another tight knit battle as he fought with Bud Kaeding, Justin Grant, and Thomas Meseraull at times during the eventful feature event.

Able to work the low side of the speedway, or pound the cushion, Bernal was able to put together a very strong showing as he took the checkered flag with a fourth place finish.

“I have to thank the guys for making the trip back here,” Bernal said. “I would love to run with the National guys more, so it meant a lot to get to do it this weekend, and have some success.”

Bernal and the Mike Phulps Motorsports team would like to thank Keizer Wheels, DMI, S&S Automotive, King Racing Products, Metal Works, Hoosier Racing Tires, Core Power, ART Chassis, Tri-L Mandarin Ranch, Tel-Tac, Willwood, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Permatex, Alan Kaiser Construction, Outlaw Graphics, BR Motorsports, FK Rod Ends, STIDA, Rockwell Security, ButlerBuilt, GoScope, 4 Alarm Promotions, and Dean Dealy Motorsports for their support during the 2016 season.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-12, Wins-2, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-10.

ON TAP: Bernal and his Mike Phulps Motorsports are hoping to compete at the Ocean Speedway on Friday night, and the Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday night.
