PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to racing action with Tarlton Motorsports over the weekend, Ryan Bernal would put together a nice night during the 29th Annual Dave Bradway Jr Memorial as he recorded a ninth place finish.
“Saturday was a pretty solid night for our race team,” Ryan Bernal said. “I felt like we had a good car, but we just couldn’t seem to catch and breaks.”
Checking in for one of the King of the West Series’ marquee events, Bernal would kick things off by timing the Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum backed No. 21 machine in 12th quickest in time trials.
Turning in a great performance in his heat race, the Hollister, CA driver would fend off Tim Kaeding and Colby Copeland to grab the heat race win, and transfer himself directly into the 40-lap feature event.
Lining up 12th on the starting grid, Bernal would endure some contact on the second lap of the race that caused some nose wing damage and forced him into the work area.
Able to make the call to restart, Bernal would find himself back in the 20th spot for much of the early stages of the race until getting in 17th on the 15th lap. Bernal would continue to run around the 15-17th spots until the caution was needed on the 30th lap before it turned into an open red.
Jumping into 10th when the race restarted, Bernal would get up into 9th on the 36th lap, would ride the rest of the race out there as he capped a hard fought night with a ninth place finish.
The team was also in action on Friday night in an unsanctioned race paying homage to Bill Brownell. Getting off to a tough start in time trials, Bernal would time in 20th fastest in time trials.
In a deep hole early, Bernal would make some nice moves in his heat race as a third place finish would punch his ticket into the 30-lap feature event. From deep in the field, Bernal would go to work on the slicked off surface as he looked to get comfortable and dialed in for Saturday night’s program.
When the checkered flag was displayed to the field, Bernal closed his night with an 11th place finish.
“Friday night I just did not get us timed in well, and we were digging out of hole all night,” Bernal added. “I keep getting more and more comfortable in this car, and have to thank the Tarlton family for this opportunity, and the team for working so hard for me.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, NOS Energy Drink, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
