Ryan Bernal Rebounds After Tough Luck at Petaluma

PETERSEN MEDIA- Competing at the Placerville Speedway and Petaluma Speedway over the Fourth of July weekend, Ryan Bernal rebounded for a nice third place finish on Saturday night after some tough luck on Friday night while leading the race.

“Hats off to my guys again for giving me a great car on both nights,” Ryan Bernal said. “We had a car good enough to win on Friday night, and on Saturday we were in the hunt again and ended up on the podium.”

Making a winged 360ci start during a rare Friday night event at the Petaluma Speedway, Bernal would kick his two-race weekend off by timing the Metal Works/Keizer Wheels/DMI No. 56 machine in third fastest.

Picking up the heat race win, Bernal would find his Mike Phulps Motorsports machine in the second of the 25-lap feature event. Getting off a nice start on a tricky Petaluma Speedway surface, Bernal would battle for the lead before jumping into the top spot on the second lap.

On the 5th lap, things would go south for Bernal and his team as a part failed on his machine and he made hard contact with the wall dashing his hopes for his second career winged sprint car win.

With his team working hard Friday night to get his machine ready for Saturday, Bernal and team made the decision to head to the Placerville Speedway after initially committing to run at the Silver Dollar Speedway.

Timing in eighth fastest on the high-banked ¼ mile facility, the Hollister, CA driver would take advantage of his front row starting position in his heat race and again race his way into the night’s redraw with the heat race win.

Lining up in the second row for the feature event, Bernal would find himself in a torrid battle with Justin Bradway and Chase Madgic. Working around the racy Placerville Speedway, Bernal would move into the third spot, as him and Madgic continue to fight for the second position.

A couple of extended caution periods would force officials to shorten the race by five laps, and Bernal would take the checkered flag in the third spot.

“After Friday night, I really need to thank my guys for working so hard to get us race ready for Saturday night,” Bernal added. “It was a little disappointing to have the feature get cut short, but we had a good run and we are looking to carry that over to this weekend in Watsonville, CA.”

Bernal and the Mike Phulps Motorsports team would like to thank Keizer Wheels, DMI, S&S Automotive, King Racing Products, Metal Works, Hoosier Racing Tires, Core Power, ART Chassis, Tri-L Mandarin Ranch, Tel-Tac, Willwood, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Permatex, Alan Kaiser Construction, Outlaw Graphics, BR Motorsports, FK Rod Ends, STIDA, Rockwell Security, ButlerBuilt, GoScope, 4 Alarm Promotions, and Dean Dealy Motorsports for their support during the 2014 season.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-25, Wins-7, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-16.

ON TAP: Bernal and the Mike Phulps Motorsports will be in action on Friday and Saturday night with the Civil War Series and the King of the West Series in Watsonville, CA for the Howard Kaeding Classic.
