PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in a race that former Tarlton Motorsports driver, Peter Murphy puts on, Ryan Bernal made the most of his first non wing start with Tarlton Motorsports as he finished second in Friday’s USAC West Coast 360 feature event before rains postponed Saturday night’s KWS event.

“Big thanks to Tarlton Motorsports for giving me a chance to run in the Non-Wing portion of the Peter Murphy Classic,” Ryan Bernal said. “We got better each time we hit the track, and by feature event time we were pretty good and I was able to work my way up to a second place finish.”

Timing the Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum backed No. 21 machine in 9th fastest in qualifying time trials, Bernal would have his work cut out for himself on a track that he has found so much success at.

Running fifth in heat race competition, the Hollister, CA driver would take the green flag from the ninth position to start the 30-lap Peter Murphy Classic feature event.

With the low groove proving to be the chosen groove, Bernal would show patience as he worked his way forward, and got up into the second position late after a good battle with Jace Vander Weerd.

Once in second, Bernal would set his sights on leader, Austin Liggett, and he would have a couple of late restarts to try and make something happen.

Stalking Liggett, Bernal would try to sneak under him, but to no avail as he continued to run second. One final restart would set up an exciting finish. Going low with two to go, Bernal would go for broke on the final lap, as he rode the cushion through turns three and four and closed the gap on Liggett in a hurry and just narrowly missed out on a thrilling finish though still came home with a second place finish.

“I wish I would have tried that line on the last lap a little earlier,” Bernal said “We were definitely there for sure, and I owe it to all of my guys for working so hard all night long and getting us better and better.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, NOS Energy Drink, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
