PETERSEN MEDIA: Kicking the 2022 season off over the weekend in Chico, CA Ryan Robinson and the Weiher Racing team would net a pair of Top-10 finishes during the John Padjen Classic Silver Cup.
“Friday night went really well for our race team,” Ryan Robinson said. “We won our heat to get into the redraw, and actually got up to third at one point before falling back to sixth.”
With 45 cars in attendance to open the John Padjen Classic Silver Cup on Friday night, Robinson timed the Mako Farms Inc./LP Holdings/Roseville Precision Inc. backed No. 14w in second fastest in his qualifying group.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Foresthill, CA native would get the jump being on the preferred outside lane and would leave the field in his wake. Racing his way to the win, Robinson would earn a berth in the redraw where the eight-pill put him in the fourth row of the 30-lap opening night feature event.
Despite the surface being hooked up and extremely fast, the 2021 Sprint Car Challenge Tour Champion would slice and dice his way forward as he hammered his machine around the ¼ mile bullring.
Getting up to third, a late restart would see Robinson fall back to fifth as he then battled with Shane Golobic in the race’s closing laps. Holding on to fourth, Golobic would beat Robinson back to the checkered flag after winning a drag race and Robinson would take home a sixth-place finish.
Saturday night’s finale would see 49 cars pack into the Silver Dollar Speedway pit area for the finale, and Robinson kick started his night by timing in third fastest in his qualifying group, which would line him up in the second row of his heat race.
Running in third, Robinson would look for a way into the Top-Two to garner a spot into the Dash. Charging hard into turn three, Robinson would see an opening and make contact with a fellow competitor. Officials would then deem Robinson’s move as rough driving and put him to the back of the field.
From the rear, Robinson would race his way back up to fifth and just narrowly miss out on a transfer into the feature event.
Moving into the ‘B’, Robinson would take the green flag from the pole as he chased after one of just four transfer positions into the 35-lap finale.
Amidst a race that was prolonged with numerous red a yellow flag stoppages, Robinson would hang on to a second place finish and successfully transfer into the ‘A’.
Lining up 22nd on the grid, Robinson impressed onlookers as he quickly made the high side of the speedway work as he looked to work his way through the field.
Getting up into 17th in the first five laps, Robinson would bring out the caution on the sixth lap and be forced back to the tail end of the field.
Going to the back for the second time, Robinson would continue to thrill on lookers as he worked his way back forward.
Taking advantage of double-file restarts throughout the night, Robinson would work his way all the way up to 10th when the checkered flag flew.
“It was great to get back to racing with Todd Weiher and this team,” Ryan Robinson added. “Thanks to everyone who makes this possible. Looking forward to getting back to Placerville Speedway for the SCCT opener in a few weeks.”
Weiher Racing would like to thank Mako Farms Inc., LP Holdings, Roseville Precision Inc., Escalon Body and Frame, Seth’s Racing Engines, Pettibone Builders, Sipes CC, The Holman Family, Square Tires, Papa Chuck, Dave Harvey Trucking, and Morrison Concrete for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races-2, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-2
ON TAP: Robinson and the Weiher Racing team will be back in action on March 26th for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour opener at Placerville Speedway.
