PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking to an ultra fast Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA after area rainstorms on Saturday night, Joey Saldana saw a strong run with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series slip away after he was involved in a lap 15 wreck during a double file restart.
“It was a tough way to basically end our night,” Joey Saldana said. “We were running fifth on a restart and I checked up for another car and then we got hit and got upside down.”
With 39 cars checked into the pit area on Saturday night, the Brownsburg, IN driver timed the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Roth Investments No. 83 machine in third fastest in his qualifying flight, putting him on the front row of his eighth-lap heat race.
A wicked fast, and narrow, Thunderbowl Raceway surface would put passing at a premium for much of the night making each start and restart that much more important. Starting alongside Bryan Clauson in the heat, Saldana would settle into the second position and earn a spot into the Dash.
After lining up fifth in Dash, Saldana would maintain his position through the duration of the race and put himself in the third row for the 35-lap A Main event. With the track still extremely fast in the feature, ‘The Brownsburg Bullet’ would settle into the fifth spot as the race got underway giving chase to Brad Sweet, and Willie Croft who ran in front of him.
A lap 15 caution would change Saldana’s race drastically as the ensuing restart would see Saldana get collected in a wreck as his machine would get upside down. Able to make repairs and rejoin the field, Saldana would be stuck in the back of the pack where he would go on to finish 17th.
“I hate that it happened,” Saldana added. “We really wanted to run well in what was basically a home race for the Roth Motorsports team. I have to thank my guys for getting me back on the track after the wreck, and Dennis and Teresa Roth for their continued support.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, 3H Cattle, Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2016.
