PETERSEN MEDIA- After announcing their 2016 plans at the conclusion of 2015, Joey Saldana and Roth Motorsports made the trip to the Cocopah Speedway for the 2nd Annual Winter Heat Showdown, and after three races Saldana is pleased with how the team is progressing.
“It is a new deal for us, so we are working on communicating with each other, and getting our car how we want it,” Joey Saldana said. “I have to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth and everyone at Roth Motorsports for letting us get started and race in January.”
An extremely slick track last Friday night ultimately took rubber in the feature event, and made passing difficult.
Finishing third in both his heat race and qualifier, the Brownsburg, IN driver would line the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle No. 83 machine up in the third row for the opening night feature event.
Rubber was imminent, and falling back to seventh when the green flag dropped, Saldana quickly got down to the rubber and made sure to hit his marks. Making sure to not bobble, Saldana would close his first night out back aboard the Roth Motorsports machine with a seventh place finish.
Saturday night at the Winter Heat would see the ‘Brownsburg Bullet’ draw a high pill for his heat race, and after lining up in the fourth row, a seventh place finish would put him in the seventh starting spot in his qualifier.
Getting his elbows up in hopes of picking up important points, Saldana would work his way up to finish third and just lock into the feature event.
Gridding the field from the seventh row, the slicked off surface and built up a beefy cushion around the track allowing Saldana to do some moving and shaking during the course of the race.
Fighting his way forward, Saldana would earn Hard Charger Honors as he worked his way up to a sixth place finish when the dust settled on the race.
Mother Nature pushed the Tuesday night race to Wednesday, and she flirted with pushing it back another day, as off and on drizzle created tricky track conditions.
Saldana would race from fifth to third in his heat before going from fifth to fourth in his qualifier.
Sitting eighth in points on Wednesday night, Saldana would line the Roth Motorsports entry up in the fourth row for the 30-lap affair.
Moving forward in the early goings of the race, Saldana would work his way toward the top-five as he chased after Darryn Pittman and DJ Netto. Racing in heavy traffic much of the night, Saldana would fight a right-rear tire that began to deflate in the waning laps of the feature event.
Doing everything he could to keep good track position, Saldana would hang to to finish in the eighth spot.
After three races at the 2nd Annual Winter Heat Showdown, Saldana and the Roth Motorsports team currently sit fifth in the series standings.
“The first night it took rubber and there wasn’t much passing, the second night we raced well, but started too far back, and on Wednesday we just had some bad luck late,” Saldana said. “We are getting better and hopefully we can get Dennis and Teresa Roth a win this weekend.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle, Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2015.
