Saldana Catches Bad Luck Bug In Knoxville, IA

PETERSEN MEDIA- Doing battle with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on three occasions over the last week, Joey Saldana and his Roth Motorsports team would finish 10th at the Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, IN before bad luck bit the team twice in Knoxville, IA.

“It was a bummer in Knoxville,” Saldana said. “We were moving forward on Friday night when a bleeder broke, and on Saturday night we just got caught up in a huge pile up a few laps in the feature.”

Opening his week up last Wednesday night at the Lincoln Park Speedway, Saldana would time the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Roth Investments No. 83 machine in 15th fastest in qualifying.

Taking the green flag from the third row in his heat race, ‘The Brownsburg Bullet’ would fight his way forward to finish in the third spot which would place him in the 10th starting position for the 40-lap feature event.

On a tricky surface, Saldana would spend much of his night inside the Top-10 battling with the likes of Paul McMahan, Jamie Veal, and Jacob Allen. Hanging around the Top-10, Saldana would take the checkered flag in the 10th spot as the team set their sights on the Knoxville Raceway.

Checking in for two nights of racing at the famed speedway located on the Marion County Fairgrounds, Saldana would get things started by timing the Southern Pacific Farms/3H Cattle machine in ninth fastest in his qualifying group.

Finishing fifth in his heat, the Brownsburg, IN driver would grid the field from the ninth row for the 25 lap feature event. On a racy Knoxville Raceway, Saldana was able to carve his way forward.

Getting up into the 11th spot in the race’s first 10-laps, Saldana’s right-rear bleeder would fail under yellow and he would be forced into the work area with a flat tire. Able to make repairs and swap bleeders, Saldana would restart from the tail end of the field and work his way up to finish in the 17th spot.

Saturday night would see Saldana time in ninth fastest overall before racing his way to a third place finish in heat race action.

Lining up in the fifth row of the 25-lap A Main, Saldana settled into the ninth spot until trouble ensued on a lap 4 restart. Getting into turn one cars went everywhere and Saldana would get a piece and his night would come to an end.

“I hate it for my guys to tear up equipment, and I hate it for Dennis and Teresa Roth,” Saldana said. “Luckily they’re great owners and continue to support us out on the road. I have to thank them and all of our partners, as well as my guys, for everything they do.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, Southern Pacific Farms, 3H Cattle,  Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: Joey and the Roth Motorsports team will return to action tomorrow night at the Granite City Speedway, before heading to the River Cities Speedway on Friday night and to the Brown County Speedway on Sunday night.
