Saldana Picks Up Pair of Second Place Finishes

A - Joey 3

PETERSEN MEDIA- Checking in at the Badlands Motor Speedway for two nights of action over the weekend, Joey Saldana and the Roth Motorsports team had a great showing that saw the team net two second place finishes.

“Overall, I thought it was a really solid weekend for this team,” Joey Saldana said. “We were right in the mix both nights, but we just came up a little short though still really good finishes.”

Kicking his weekend off on Saturday night, Saldana would time the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Roth Investments backed No. 83 machine in fourth fastest before running second in his heat race.

Finding himself back in eighth for the Dash, as seventh place finish placed the “Brownsburg Bullet” in the fourth row for the 40-lap feature event. Showing he had a very strong racecar, Saldana would work the bottom of the speedway as he raced his way forward.

Quickly getting into the Top-Five, Saldana would continue to methodically work his way forward as he soon found himself in a three-way battle for the lead along with Kerry Madsen and Brad Sweet.

Moving into the second spot around the race’s halfway point, Saldana would use a restart and apply heavy pressure on Sweet for the race lead. Taking a few shots at Sweet in the race’s closing laps, Saldana would finish in the second spot.

Returning to action on Sunday night, Saldana would again time in fourth fastest in his qualifying set before picking up the win during his heat race, and moving into the Dash.

With a little bit of luck on his side, Saldana would find himself on the pole of the Dash, and would take full advantage of the prime starting position as he would pick up the win and start on the pole for the 40-lap feature event.

When the race went green, Saldana was hard on the throttle as he jumped out to the early lead. Out front, Saldana would set a nice pace as cars would battle for position behind him.

Opening up a sizeable lead, Saldana would find himself in dense traffic which would allow Rico Abreu to close in on him. Saldana and Abreu would thrill the crowd as they exchanged the top spot for a few laps before Abreu would get over the cushion and allow Saldana to open his lead back up.

As the laps clicked down, Saldana would then feel pressure from Donny Schatz. Using the top of the speedway in traffic, Schatz would use the bottom to take over the top spot on lap 27. The final 13 laps saw Saldana keep pace with Schatz, but could not get back by him as he closed his weekend out with another second place finish.

“I have to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth for everything they do for us,” Saldana said. “We would have loved to have been one spot better both nights, but it was still a good weekend for us to be on the podium on back to back occasions.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, Southern Pacific Farms, 3H Cattle,  Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2016.
