PETERSEN MEDIA- Joey Saldana and his Roth Motorsports team picked up a sixth place finish on Friday night at the Fremont Speedway before contact while running second at the I-96 Speedway on Sunday night relegated the team to a 13th place finish.

“Friday night we got off to a pretty good start in the feature and ran third in the opening laps, but we slowly drifted back and ended up sixth,” Saldana said. “Sunday we were running second, and a little contact shot us into another car and caused a little damage and we did what we could from the rear in just a few laps.”

With 42 cars on hand at the Fremont Speedway, split qualifying was in play on Friday night and Saldana would time his Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Roth Investments backed No. 83 machine in second fastest in his flight before racing his way to a win during his heat race.

Advancing into the all-important dash, the Brownsburg, IN driver would start and finish in the third spot, which would place him in the second row for the 40-lap feature event. Moving by Shane Stewart and taking over the third spot when the race went green, Saldana would work the bottom of turns one and two as he chased after Chad Kemmenah and David Gravel who ran out front.

The ultra slick Fremont Speedway would see the leaders get into lapped traffic early in the race and this would allow Donny Schatz to pull up to Saldana’s bumper and battle him for the final spot on the podium. With Schatz able to get around, Saldana would fall back to fourth, and then soon back into the fifth spot as Greg Wilson to got by him just before the halfway point.

Continuing to run in the Top-Five as he navigated around the slick surface, Saldana would find himself in a battle with Jason Johnson for the fifth position late in the race. With Johnson able to sneak past him, Saldana would end his night with a sixth place finish.

With rain getting the best of the scheduled Saturday night program at the I-96 Speedway, the race would be postponed until Sunday night. Timing in fourth quickest, Saldana would continue to take advantage of his heat race starting positions as he racked yet another heat win.

Charging from sixth to second in the Dash, ‘The Brownsburg Bullet’ would line up on the front row of the feature event alongside David Gravel.

Settling into the second spot on a lightning fast I-96 Speedway, Saldana would give chase to Gravel who led the way early in the race. On lap seven things would take a turn for the worse for Saldana, as contact between another car battling him for the second spot would shoot him up the racetrack and into a lapped car and result in the Roth Motorsports machine coming to a stop.

Restarting from the tail end of the field, Saldana would work his way back to the 13th spot in 10-laps before rain moved in and the race was checkered on the 17th lap.

“It was unfortunate to have the night we had on Sunday because I thought we had a fast racecar,” Saldana said. “I have to thank my guys for continuing to work hard, and Dennis and Teresa Roth for continuing to support us. We are working hard to get them another World of Outlaws win.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, 3H Cattle,  Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2016.
