Sanders 2nd at HK Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing back aboard the seat of the Justin Sanders Racing No. 17 machine for the HK Classic over the weekend, Justin Sanders would put on a hard charge with the 360’s on Friday night before tallying a second-place finish with the KWS on Saturday night.

“Friday night I didn’t like the way our car felt, so we actually put a new car together for Saturday’s 410ci show,” Justin Sanders said. “Unfortunately, we endured some nose wing damage in the feature, and I think it cost us a shot at the win.”

Opening the weekend in 360ci competition, Sanders would mount quite the charge in the 30-lap feature event aboard the North County Plastering/Andy’s Construction/Alkaline88 backed entry.

Taking the green flag from the 20th starting position, Sanders would be on the prowl in the feature. Carving his way through the field, Sanders would cap off quite the run as he accepted the checkered flag with a sixth place finish.

Working through the night to put a new car together for Saturday’s program, Sanders was much happier with the feel of this one as he got his night off to a nice start by timing in sixth quickest, and finishing second in his heat race.

Finishing second in the Dash, Sanders would line up on the front row of the 30-lap HK Classic feature event alongside Kyle Hirst.

In a very spirited battle, Sanders would find himself in second as Hirst led early but was patient as traffic was soon a factor.

Withstanding some stoppages that gave the leaders clear track, Sanders again waited for traffic to make some moves, but contact with another car resulted in a damaged nose wing.

Once the nose wing went down, Sanders had a handful as he continued to keep pace with Hirst. Unable to get by the former series champion, Sanders capped the night off with a second-place finish.

“Thanks to everyone who supports our team, and who helped all weekend long,” Sanders said. “Looking forward to another busy weekend ahead.”

Justin and his team would like to thank North County Plastering, Andy’s Construction, Alkaline88, Yuba Sutter Aviation, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2020.
