PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending his Friday night at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA, Justin Sanders closed out his 2014 Taco Bravo campaign with a second place finish, and ended up third in the championship standings.
“We had a really good car, and had a shot to cotend for the win late, but with the race going non-stop, I think a caution would have benefitted us,” Justin Sanders said.
Sanders opened his night up by timing the North County Plastering/G&N Construction/STS Trucking No. 17 machine in seventh fastest, before going on to pick up the heat race win.
Earning a spot in the redraw, Sanders again found himself drawing the seven pill, and he lined up for the 30-lap feature event in the fourth row.
Following a caution on the initial start, the remained of the 30-lap race would go without stoppage, and the lead pack would find themselves in dense traffic for a majority of the race.
Working his way into the third spot, Sanders set his sights on Shane Golobic and Andy Forsberg and the race drew to a close.
With five laps to go, Sanders was able to get around Golobic in very thick traffic, and closed in on Forsberg, as he looked to pick up his second win of the season at the Ocean Speedway.
On this night, however, Forsberg was too good, and Sanders would cross the stripe with a second place finish.
“(Andy) Forsberg did a great job and I congratulate him on the win,’ Sanders said. “I think we raced very well, and sometimes when races go non-stop you wish you would have got a caution, but Andy might have been even better in open track. Hopefully we can put a strong run together this week during the Trophy Cup.”
Justin Sanders would like to thank North County Plastering, G&N Construction, STS Trucking, Lancaster Locksmith, Village Glass. Lufos Kustom Designs, Taco Bravo, LRB Race Products, Petersen Media, Fire Protection Management, Dirt Solution, Bob Tweedy, Ron Gravelle. Keener Auto Body, and Dave Haver Racing Engines for their continued support.
ON TAP: Sanders will be in action for the 21st Annual Trophy Cup this Thursday-Saturday at the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA.
