PETERSEN MEDIA: Justin Sanders nearly swept the weekend for a second consecutive week. Following his third straight win at the Ocean Speedway on Friday night, Sanders did all he could on Saturday night at the Marysville Raceway but came up just short as he finished in the second spot.
“The Ocean Speedway has been awesome all year long, and makes for really fun races from a driver’s point of view, and has to be exciting from the grandstands, and that has led to our success,” Sanders said. “Saturday night Marysville wasn’t as wide as we needed it to be, but it was still another great run for the F&W Racing team.”
Competing at the Ocean Speedway on Friday night, Sanders timed his Lancaster Strong No. 17 machine 12th fastest which was good enough to put him on the front row of his heat race which he won.
With the Ocean Speedway utilizing a dash on Friday night, Sanders would start and finish fifth, putting him in the third row for the 30-lap feature event. On a track that allowed for slide-jobs galore, Sanders was quickly up into the third spot as he chased after the lead duo of Bud Kaeding and Tommy Tarlton.
In thick lapped traffic, Kaeding and Tarlton would get flirt with disaster, and Sanders would pounce on the opening, and slide up to take the lead, and never look back as he went on to win the race by over 3.5 seconds.
Heading to the Marysville Raceway on Saturday night, Sanders would time the Rudy Warrington owned No. 18 machine in second fastest before he went from fourth to second in his heat race.
Earning a spot in the redraw, the Watsonville, CA would find himself with the vaunted eight pill, putting him in the fourth row of the feature event. On a track where passing was tough, Sanders would work his way forward as the Marysville Raceway crowd has grown accustomed to as of late.
Working into the second spot, Sanders would begin pressuring Cody Lamar for the race lead, as the duo hooked up in an entertaining battle. Trying to make the high-side work, Sanders simply could not get to the lead, and ended his night with a second place run.
“It is just an awesome feeling to be in the position we are in with both teams right now,” Sanders said. “To be a threat every night is a position you want to be in, and to race wheel to wheel with such great competition is awesome. I have to thank everyone who supports both of these teams, and make all of this possible.”
ON TAP: Justin Sanders will look to take command of the Civil War Sprint Car Series this coming Saturday and Sunday night as the series returns to action at the Marysville Raceway on Saturday night and at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Sunday night.
