Sanders Nets Two Wins During KWS Speedweek

PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking the wheel of Kevin Kozlowski’s Works Limited No. 57 for KWS Speedweek, Justin Sanders and Crew Chief Paul Silva gelled well together as Sanders picked up his 18th and 19th wins of the season.

“I really have to thank Kevin Kozlowski for the opportunity to drive for him, and Paul Silva and all of the guys for their hard work each night,” Justin Sanders said. “We raced really well together, and again I am extremely thankful for the opportunity.”

Kicking the action off on Thursday night in Merced, CA, Sanders would time the Works Limited backed entry in fifth quickest in qualifying time trials. Running second in his heat race, the Aromas, CA pilot would race his way into the Dash, which he would win, and lead the field to green for the first 30-lap feature of the week.

When the race came to life, Sanders jumped out to the early lead, but would soon feel pressure from Dominic Scelzi. As the duo battled up front, Scelzi would put Sanders back to second, however a caution would fly and negate the pass and put Sanders back out front.

The duo would continue to battle hard on the small confines of the Merced Speedway, and as they battle really got dicey up front another late caution would fly and give the lead back to Sanders. In the final few stanzas, Scelzi would pressure Sanders, but on this night, Sanders would get to the finish first and pick up his first win with the Works Limited team.

Traveling to Ocean Speedway on Friday night, Sanders would have a bit off an off night at the track he has been so dominant at all year long. Timing in 15th fastest, Sanders would finish fifth in his heat and find himself back in the eighth row to start the 30-lap ‘A’ Main.

With the Ocean Speedway surface a little tough to pass on, Sanders would have some trouble working his way through traffic. Able to pick up a couple of positions, Sanders would end his night with a 12th place finish.

Saturday night saw things shift to Stockton Dirt Track, and the night would get off to a very nice start for Sanders as he timed in 7th quickest on this night. Picking up the win in his heat, Sanders advanced into the Dash and by winning that he led the field to green in the Champions Classic.

Slipping back to second when the race came to life, Sanders would not stay there for long as he would nail the bottom on the second lap and take command of the race.

Looking strong out front, Sanders would keep the likes of DJ Netto and Dominic Scelzi at bay until bad luck struck on the 10th lap where Sanders endured a flat right rear and was forced to go to the work area.

Making repairs, Sanders would showcase a very strong mount from the back of the pack as he was able to race his way back up to an 11th place finish when the race came to a close.

Sunday night’s trip to Petaluma Speedway would mark the final round of KWS Speedweek action, and it was at a track Sanders had already won at with the series back in May.

Timing in third fastest in qualifying time trials, Sanders run second in his heat race and transfer into the Sunnyvalley Bacon Dash. Able to win the Dash, Sanders would again find himself on the pole of the feature event, as he looked for his second win of the week with the KWS.

Getting out to the early lead on the Petaluma Speedway ‘Gumbo’, Sanders would open up a sizeable lead, but would see it evaporate as traffic came into play. With Colby Copeland and Dominic Scelzi both closing on him in traffic, Sanders would not flinch as he kept the Paul Silva prepared entry out front.

Giving himself some breathing room in the closing laps, Sanders would end Speedweek just as he opened it and that was in victory lane as he captured his 19th win of the 2021 season.

“Saturday night I think we had a car definitely good enough to win, and to win on Sunday was great,” Sanders said. “It is a lot of fun to race with these guys, and it was great to get a couple of wins.”

Justin and his team would like to thank North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2021.
