PETERSEN MEDIA: The Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster came back to life over the weekend, and Justin Sanders picked up two more Top-10 finishes as he continues his very strong 2015 campaign.
“It wasn’t quite like the couple of weeks we had leading up to this past weekend, but we still were able to get a couple of Top-10’s,” Sanders said.
Saturday night at the Marysville Raceway, Sanders would go out late in the qualifying session, and would time in 17th fastest and just narrowly miss the heat race inversion.
Moving from fifth to fourth in his heat, Sanders would line up in the 16th spot of the 30-lap feature event. From near the back of the pack, the Watsonville, CA driver was able to make some moves and work his way forward.
Taking advantage of a few restarts, Sanders would find himself inside the Top-10 late in the feature event. In the closing laps, he would work up into the eighth spot, where he would finish in what was the 16th Annual Mel Hal Memorial.
Back in action on Sunday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway for the annual Fair Race, Sanders was on the right side of the inversion on this night, as he would time in 16th fastest and just narrowly make it.
Lining up on the front row of his heat, Sanders would take advantage of the prime starting position and pick up the win as he made himself dash eligible by doing so.
Finishing sixth in the dash, Sanders would line up in the third row for the Sunday night feature event. On the opening lap of the race, Sanders would see his nose wing collapse, making his machine difficult to maneuver.
On the eighth lap, contact from behind would give Sanders a flat tire, and a chance to go to the work area to make repairs to his machine. Able to make the call, Sanders was impressive from the back of the pack, as he was able to carve his way through he field, and salvage his night with a ninth place finish.
“We were in good position on Sunday night, but had bad luck with our nose wing,” headed. “Once that collapsed, we were all over the track, and then we finally got hit. We had a really good car from the back of the pack, so it was nice to get back up inside the Top-10.”
ON TAP: Justin Sanders will return to the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA on Friday night before rejoining the Civil War Series on Saturday night in Placerville, CA.
