Sanders Sixth at Chico, CA’s Summer Nationals

PETERSEN MEDIA- Climbing back aboard the potent Dale Miller Motorsports No. 4SA car on Friday night in Chico, CA, Justin Sanders would have his elbows up as he charged from 16th to tally a sixth-place finish at the Summer Nationals.

“With over 60 cars on hand every little thing mattered and with us being unable to sneak into the redraw, it made for a hard-fought feature event,” Justin Sanders said. “We used restarts to our advantage and put together a good run in the ‘A’.”

Friday night came to life with Sanders timing the Thompson’s Buick-GMC/Thompson’s Jeep-Ram/Dale Miller Septic Inc. No. 4SA ninth fastest in his qualifying group.

With heat races lined up directly from qualifying results, the Aromas, CA pilot gridded the field from ninth in his heat race and promptly put on a show. Working his way through the field, Sanders showed why he has been one of the winningest drivers in CA over the last few years as he was able to salvage his night and record a fourth-place finish.

Though it wasn’t good enough to garner a berth into the all-important redraw, it secured him a place in the 30-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the 16th starting position.

An extremely aggressive start saw Sanders jump up into the 12th position before an early restart saw him make a couple of big time moves and quickly move into sixth.

Slipping back to seventh on a lap 11 restart, Sanders would hold down the position until he reclaimed sixth on the 17thlap.

Spending the last handful of laps jockeying for position, Sanders and Sean Becker would exchange the sixth position several times before Sanders was able to claim the position for good as he took the Friday night checkered flag with a sixth-place finish.

“Dale and I have been really good all year, and to come through that strong of a field like we did says a lot,” Sanders said. “Qualifying really hurt us, but I think we will be just fine for this coming event Saturday night at Placerville Speedway.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 5, Wins- 2, Top-5’s-4, Top-10’s-5

ON TAP: The next event for Dale Miller Motorsports and Justin Sanders will be Saturday night at Placerville Speedway.
