PETERSEN MEDIA- Dominic Scelzi and Roth Motorsports had a pretty solid weekend at Calistoga Speedway during the Louie Vermeil Classic as Scelzi scored the win on Saturday night before finishing fourth during Sunday’s finale.

“I can’t thank Dennis and Teresa Roth enough for putting me in their car and allowing me to chase after this KWS Championship,” Dominic Scelzi said. “To win in such an iconic car with some much history at Calistoga Speedway is pretty cool.”

Saturday night Scelzi came out very strong after a good end to KWS Speedweek. Building off the momentum from the finale in Stockton, CA, Scelzi timed the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co. entry in 4th quickest in time trials.

Going from third to second in his heat race, the Fresno, CA pilot would finish finish fourth in the Dash which placed him in the second row for the feature event.

When the race came to life on the slick Calistoga Speedway surface, Scelzi would jump right into second as he worked the bottom and chased after leader, Chase Johnson. Continuing to run second, Scelzi would try to make the top work around the race’s halfway point and it would allow Ryan Bernal by and drop him back to third.

With Bernal having tire issues with six laps left in the race, it would move Scelzi back up to second for a late restart. Giving chase to Chase Johnson, a yellow with just three to go would set up an epic finish for Scelzi. Pulling up alongside of him coming to the flag stand with two to go, Scelzi would have the momentum through turns one and two and pull away heading down the back stretch.

Taking the white flag as the leader, Scelzi would go on to pocket the win, and become the first winged winner at the Louie Vermeil Classic.

Returning to Calistoga Speedway on Sunday night for more Louie Vermeil Classic action, Scelzi’s machine would stumble coming to the checkered flag in time trials and it would result in him timing in 10th quickest to kick off the finale.

On a greasy surface in heat race action, Scelzi would slip back to finish third and find himself in the fifth row for the final feature event of the weekend.

With a couple of cars getting out of shape in front of him, Scelzi would get off to a a slow start as he would take evasive action. Losing a few spots early, Scelzi would show some veteran patience as he started working his way back forward. Fighting his way up to sixth, the Fresno, CA product would use a late restart to work into fourth.

Chasing down the lead trio, Scelzi would simply run out of time and come up short on making an attempt to podium as he closed a great weekend in Calistoga, CA out with a fourth place finish to go along with Saturday’s win.

“To get two top-5’s and a win at Calistoga Speedway is huge,” Scelzi said. “This place means a lot of to all of us in action so to earn another win here is special. Again, thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth and all of the people involved with this race team.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Jason, Tara, And Cole Roth Cattle Co., Roth Investments, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Smith Titanium for their support in 2019.
