PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in the 27th Trophy Cup with Vertullo Motorsports over the weekend, Sean Becker would pair a ninth-place finish on Friday night and a 12th place finish on Saturday night and end up 12th in the final event standings.

“We had a lot of fun at this great event,” Sean Becker said. “All the credit goes to this team, because they continued to make the car better every time we hit the track.”

Following Thursday night’s showing where he finished 9th in the night’s second ‘B’, Becker and company came out firing on Friday night looking for a much better point total to take into Saturday.

Timing the Starr Property Management/Morrison Concrete/A.R.T. backed No. 83V machine in 18th fastest in his qualifying group, ‘The Shark’ would capitalize on a front row starting position in his heat race as he powered to the win and locked into the Friday night feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 14th starting position, the Roseville, CA driver was able to power his way forward as he used his veteran savvy as well as some patience.

Working his was methodically around the high-banked 1/3 mile oval, Becker would approaching the Top-10 just after the race’s halfway point. Jumping inside the Top-10 with four laps left in the 30-lapper, Becker would battle between ninth and 10th in the final laps.

When the Ed Entz checkered flag was displayed, Becker would capture the ninth position as he would then turn his attention to Saturday night’s finale.

Lining up sixth in his Saturday night heat race, Becker was run an unconventional line at the Thunderbowl as he opted to use the bottom of the speedway, With the rest of the field pounding the cushion and riding the wall, Becker was able to make up ground on the low groove as he worked his way up to a second-place finish and securely put himself in the 50-lap feature event.

Sitting 15th in event points, Becker would take the green flag from the sixth starting position for the Trophy Cup finale as he would set his sights on earning the race win and letting the points fall how they fell.

Battling for position inside the Top-Three in the race’s early laps, Becker would settle into fourth on what was a very fast surface in the opening stanzas.

A lap 21 caution would turn into the scheduled stop and under the stoppage a cut tire was detected by the Vertullo Motorsports crew and changing tires would force Becker to the back of the lead lap cars, which moved him from 4th to 15th.

Giving up position inside the Top-5, Becker would now find himself in a battle with some of the events top point earners as he looked to race his way back forward.

Able to recover a few positions, ‘The Shark’ would end his night with a 12th place finish in both the race and in the point standings.

“It was definitely a bit of a heart breaker to have a cut tire that early and give up our track position,” Becker added. “Thanks to this team, we were able to make some changes and still come away with a solid finish.”
