PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending his week competing at the Gold Cup Race of Champions with Bjork Motorsports, Sean Becker scored an eighth-place finish in 360 action, ran eighth during his prelim with High Limit Racing, and culminated the week with a 14th place finish during the Saturday night championship feature.
“Running the last two weeks with High Limit Racing was a very humbling experience,” Sean Becker said. “I had a lot of confidence heading into the swing and we finally laid down a good qualifying lap on Thursday night which helped us put it in the Saturday night feature.”
After opening the week up with a 360ci show on Wednesday night, Sean Becker returned to action on Thursday night with the 410ci powerplant bolted back in to kick off the High Limit Racing portion of Gold Cup.
Timing in 10th quickest in his qualifying flight, ‘The Shark’ lined up in the second row of his heat race needing to finish inside the Top-5 to transfer into the opening night feature event.
Pocketing a fifth-place finish, Becker was locked into the feature event where he was slated to take the green flag from the front row of the 30-lap feature event.
Settling into third when the race went green, Becker would get up over the edge of the track on the third lap as he drifted back to 10th before powering his way back to seventh.
Battling hard on the bullring against some extremely stiff competition, Becker hooked up in an entertaining battle with a familiar fore, Andy Forsberg.
The two jockeyed for position in the closing laps as they battled for position inside the Top-10. When the battle, and race, concluded it was Becker taking the checkered with an eighth-place finish.
Turning into a spectator on Friday night, Becker returned to the track on Saturday for the Gold Cup finale as he found himself in the third starting position of the third heat race.
Needing to finish inside the four to lock into the feature, Becker was able to do just that as he Roseville, CA driver tallied a third place finish and punched his ticket into the 40-lap Gold Cup Race of Champions finale.
Taking the green flag from the 16th starting position, overnight rain did lead a surface that was extreme fast and tricky to pass on. Hanging around the Top-15 for much of the race, Becker worked into 14th just past the halfway point, where he ran for a majority of the race’s remainder. Slipping back to 15th for a few laps, the former track champion was able cap the big week off with a 14th place finish.
“We had some good fortune in Chico, CA and that defitnely allowed us to put it in the feature event,” Becker added. “I am proud of this team, and happy to be a part of such a great event.”
