PETERSEN MEDIA- A former winner of the Adobe Cup in Petaluma, CA, Sean Becker returned to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night with Bjork Motorsports for the 12th running of the event as he scored a fifth-place finish when all was said and done.
“The Adobe Cup is always one of my favorite events of the year,” Sean Becker said. “Unfortunately I wanted to try something in the Dash, and in the end I should have stayed quiet and let Brad Bumgarner do his thing, because he had the car on kill all night.”
Getting back to Sprint Car Challenge Tour action on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA, Becker timed the Bjork Construction backed No. 7B in second fastest in his qualifying flight.
Lining up on the pole of his heat race, Becker didn’t get the jump he needed as he slipped back to second. Finishing in the runner-up position, Becker still locked into the Dash and the fourth pill put him in the second row of the six-lap affair.
Having some struggles in the Dash, Becker slipped all the way back to eighth which is where he finished, and that ultimately put him in the fourth row of the 35-lap feature event that offered up $5000-to-win.
With the track staying extremely fast all night long, Becker had his work cut out for himself form the fourth row. Following a lap one red, Becker settled into seventh as the race got into an extended green flag run.
Working his way into sixth, Becker ran there when the caution flag paused the action on the 16th circuit. Slipping back to eight on the restart, a wild instance on lap 21 took three of the top-five runners out of the equation and Becker found himself up into the fifth.
Running in fifth when the action resumed, Becker was stout as he continued to battle the likes of Andy Forsberg and Willie Croft who ran in front of him.
In the final stanzas, Becker’s entry started to stumble as he got low on fuel, but the Roseville, CA driver was able to hang on to the Top-Five as he crossed the stipe in fifth.
“I wish I didn’t get us buried in the Dash, because I think we had a car that was capable of an even better finish,” Becker added. “I am still grateful we were able to hang on to a Top-Five despite running out of fuel.”
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-22, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 4, Top-10’s- 14
ON TAP: Becker is slated to return to action this weekend in Hanford, CA. Friday night he will compete with the SCCT, and Saturday night the team will change motors and battle the KWS/NARC series.
