Sean Becker and Cook Motorsports Have Another Strong Showing with SCCT

PETERSEN MEDIA- Though the race wasn’t on the team’s initial schedule, Cook Motorsports made a last-minute decision of sorts to pack up and head south to Merced Speedway in Merced, CA with Sean Becker on Saturday night, and it proved to be worth the team’s while as ‘The Shark’ won his heat race and picked up a seventh-place finish.

“I am grateful that Blake Cook and his team decided to make the extremely long tow to Merced Speedway,” Sean Becker said. “The car was extremely fast every time I hit the track, and I wish I could have drawn a better pill for the Dash/Feature with the way the track was.”

A robust 52-car field was on hand Saturday night for the second installment of the 2022 Sprint Car Challenge Tour campaign, and Becker would get the night kicked off by timing the Absolute Plumbing/Cook’s Contracting/CSR Builders backed No. 22x machine in second fastest in his qualifying group.

With the track already taking rubber by the time heat four hit the speedway, Becker’s pole starting position would be more important than ever as he needed to pick up the win to transfer into the Dash.

Nailing the start, ‘The Shark’ quickly motored away from the field as he led the duration of the race and took the win going away. With the win, Becker moved into the Dash where he then pull the 10, which slotted him to line up in the fifth row of the 6-lap shootout.

With time and tire wear becoming a growing issue on this night, SCCT officials made the decision to scrap the Dash, which meant Becker would now line up 10th in the 35-lap feature event.

A freshly groomed track surface prior the 35-lap finale led to a fast surface in the early goings as Becker worked his way forward on the ¼ mile bullring.

Jumping into ninth, Becker would hold the position as passing was difficult during a 27-lap nonstop run.

The race’s lone restart would come in clutch for Becker as he was able to make a couple of swift moves to secure the seventh spot. Battling with Shane Golobic during the race’s closing stages, Becker would take the checkered flag with a seventh-place finish.

“Unfortunately, our starting position put his mid-pack, and then passing was really tricky,” Becker added. “I felt like we had a car good enough to battle up front, but we just could not get there. I am having so much fun running with these Cook brothers and can’t wait until our next race.”

Cook Motorsports would like to thank Absolute Plumbing, Cook’s Contracting, CSR Builders, Shark Racing Engines, Cottage Grove Inn, Primetime Designs, Highline Performance, Les Schwab, and Cascade Pizza for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 4, Wins- 0, Top 5’s- 1, Top 10’s-2

ON TAP: Cook Motorsports’ next event is TBD at this time.

Sean Becker will be back in action this Friday and Saturday night in Chico, CA.
