PETERSEN MEDIA- Putting a couple of mechanical failures during the last two SCCT races behind him, Sean Becker was back on the podium with the series on Sunday night as he picked up a third-place finish aboard the Dan Monhoff owned No. 35 machine at Marysville Raceway.
“We had great speed all night,” Sean Becker said. “We just narrowly missed out on the overall quick time, but it put us in position to win our heat and be up front all night.”
A total of 30 cars checked in for the annual Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial event at Marysville Raceway and Becker would time in second fastest overall and second fastest in his heat race group.
Lining up on the front row of his heat, Becker would get off to a picture-perfect start in heat race competition as he jumped out to the early lead and never looked back. Picking up the win, Becker advanced into the 35-lap feature event and made his way into the High Sierra Industries Dash.
Pulling the seven pill for the Dash line up, Becker would finish eighth and find himself in the fourth row to kick off the 35-lap ‘A’ Main.
On a very hooked up and fast Marysville Raceway surface, Becker would do a nice job of passing some very strong cars as he worked his way into third. Once in third, Becker would close on the lead duo of Colby Copeland and Andy Forsberg as the battle for the lead heated up.
As the trio of drivers began to hook up in a very spirited the battle, a couple of stoppages would interrupt the battle, and take the leaders out of traffic.
When the race was able to get back into a green flag run, Becker would hook up in a very hotly contested battle with longtime friend, and rival on the track, Andy Forsberg.
The duo would throw down a very torrid battle for the runner up position before Becker would settle into third as Forsberg cleared him.
Getting into traffic in the closing laps, Becker would close back in on the duo, but time would run out as he capped his night off with a third-place finish.
“We passed some really good cars in the feature and had a couple of great battles inside the Top-Three,” Becker added. “We are really fast, we have had some bad luck, but I know we are knocking on the door at our first win this year.”
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-21, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 4, Top-10’s- 10
