PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the seat of the Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Cherry Street Mini Storage/Menne Ranch Hay Inc. No. 75 machine on Friday night, Sean Becker hooked up in a hard fought fight that ultimately saw him take the checkered flag with a second place finish.
“We have really been struggling, but still managed to put ourselves in position to win the race, and I cannot take Dan, Tom, and Brian enough for how hard they worked on the car all night,” Sean Becker said.
Checking into the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night, Becker would time the Astro Titanium/Ponybracket.com/Shaver Racing Engines powered machine in sixth fastest during qualifying time trials.
Following a third place effort in heat race action, the Orville, CA native turned Roseville, CA resident would find himself on the front row of the 25-lap feature event, with Jonathan Allard next to him.
At the waiving of the green flag, it was Becker jumping out into the early lead, with Colby Copeland hot on his tail, and in pursuit of the early leader. Taking a liking to the top side of the speedway, Becker would run very hard, and consistent laps, as he kept Copeland at bay on the low side of the speedway.
With the two racing side by side at numerous times of the race, Becker continued to keep the top spot, as the laps clicked down. On the 20th lap, Becker got into the cushion in turns one and tow, and gave Copeland the opportunity to take the top spot, and as Copeland slid up in front of Becker, he was able to turn down, and keep the top spot down the back stretch.
Out of four, Becker would slip to the second spot again, as he then began his pursuit to get the top spot back. In the closing laps, Becker would stalk Copeland, but would be unable to get back by, and settled for second at the stripe.
“We led most of the race, and had a great battle with Colby Copeland, and I just got beat,” Becker added. “As bummed as I am for not closing out the win for this team, I am really proud of the progress we have made throughout the year.”
Becker would like to thank Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Cherry Street Mini Storage, Menne Ranch Hay Inc., Astro Titanium, Ponybracket.com, Shaver Racing Engines, FK Rod Ends, and K&N for their support in 2015.
