PETERSEN MEDIA: Traveling to Hanford, CA for the first time in 2017 with the King of the West Series, Sean Watts would endure a bit of a wild night as he came away with a 13th place finish.

“We bent our ladder early running on a pretty tricky cushion, and then late in the feature contact with another car caused a flat,” Watts said. “We were able to make changes and finish 13th. It was a wild night.”

Timing the Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction No. 98 machine in ninth quickest during qualifying time trials, the Atwater, CA pilot would line up in the third row of his heat race.

Finishing sixth in heat race action, Watts would line the Billet American/Kaeding Performance/Shannon Pumps machine up in the fifth row for the 30-lap feature event on the slick Keller Auto Speedway surface.

With a treacherous cushion built up around the 3/8 mile track, Watts would taking a liking to the high-side in the early goings of the main event.

Working the stout cushion, Watts would get into a little to hard and it would result in some suspension issues for the WRS No. 98 machine. Fighting the ill-handling car a bit, Watts would feel contact from another competitor and it would result in a flat tire on the 19th lap.

Going to the work area for some fresh rubber, Watts would make the call to restart the race from the tail end of the field. Able to pick up a few positions in the final 11 laps of the race, Watts would end his night with a 13th place finish.

“We were good early, but I got into the cushion to hard and it caused a little damage,” Watts noted. “Thanks to everyone on this team for everything they do for me.”

Sean and the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports team would like to thank Grizzly Coolers, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Rolfe Construction, Billet American, Kaeding Performance, Shannon Pumps, Stealth Homes, Tee’s and Tops, Team Simpson, Kistler Racing Engines, and Stan Yockey Motorsports for their continued support.

ON TAP: Watts will take this weekend off before returning to action with the King of the West Series on July 15th at Ocean Speedway.
