PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting behind the wheel of the WRS No. 98 for one final time in 2017 on Saturday night in Stockton, CA, Sean Watts would endure a chaotic night but would come home with a 10th place finish when the dust settled.
“It was a pretty crazy night, and I am happy we survived and came home with a Top-10 finish,” Sean Watts said. “We made a couple trips to the work area, and my guys did a great job of getting me back on the track time and time again.”
Timing the Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction backed No. 98 machine in 11th quickest in qualifying time trials, Watts would line up on the front row of his heat race.
Racing with the likes of Bud Kaeding, Shane Golobic, and Dominic Scelzi, Watts would slip back and finish in the fourth position. Moving into the feature event, the Atwater, CA driver would grid the field from the 13th starting spot for the final 30-lap feature event of the 2017 season.
On a wicked fast racing surface, Watts would have his hands full early. Opting to duck in the work area on the fourth lap under yellow, Watts had his guys go to work on his car trying to make it more drivable with 26 laps still to be ran.
Making some quick changes, Watts would tag the field from the back of the pack, but within a few laps would find his nose wing askew creating more problems for the young racer.
Adapting the best he could, Watts would stay focused and he slowly worked his way back forward. Late in the race, contact would force Watts back into the work area with just two laps to go, and again his team would get him back on the racing surface.
Able to restart, Watts would bring his 2017 to a close with a 10th place finish.
“The hardest part about the last couple months of the season was just not racing much,” Watts said. “Hopefully we can figure something out for more races in the fall for us, but other than that it was a decent year for the team with some ups and some downs. I am thankful to everyone who works hard to make it possible.”
Sean and the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports team would like to thank Grizzly Coolers, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Rolfe Construction, Billet America, Darrel Varni Electric, Kaeding Performance, Shannon Pumps, Stealth Homes, Tee’s and Tops, Team Simpson, Kistler Racing Engines, and Stan Yockey Motorsports for their continued support.
