PETERSEN MEDIA: Kicking his 2018 season off by battling with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series during their annual Spring Swing through California, Sean Watts took some lumps but is eager to kick the King of the West season off in just two weeks.
“It was definitely a rough month for us results wise,” Sean Watts said. “We changed some things on our team in the offseason and week by week we got better. Bakersfield on Saturday night was going well but the driver made a mistake and ruined a promising night.”
Traveling to Bakersfield Speedway for one final tilt with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’, Watts opened the night up by timing the Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction backed No. 98 entry in 27th quickest of the 37 cars that checked into the pit area.
Lining up in the fourth row of his heat race, Watts would find himself chasing after fellow Californians, Willie Croft and DJ Netto as he looked for a direct transfer into the feature event. Finishing seventh, Watts would be forced into the Last Chance Showdown as he chased after one of four transfer berths.
Taking the green flag from the seventh starting position on the racy bullring, Watts would quickly jump up into the fifth spot as a feature event transfer position was within striking distance.
Pushing the envelope, Watts would lose the handle on his Billet America/Darrel Varni Electric/Kaeding Performance entry and spin his machine to a stop.
From the back of the pack, Watts would pick up a couple of positions for good measure, though his night would end with a 14th place finish.
“It was a bummer, but I feel like we got way better from where we were back in Tulare,” Watts said. “I think racing with these guys has made us better, and I am looking forward to getting to Kern County with the King of the West Series on April 7th to see how we stack up.”
Sean and the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports team would like to thank Grizzly Coolers, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Rolfe Construction, Billet America, Darrel Varni Electric, Kaeding Performance, Shannon Pumps, Stealth Homes, Tee’s and Tops, Team Simpson, Kistler Racing Engines, and Stan Yockey Motorsports for their continued support.
