PETERSEN MEDIA: With the King of the West schedule resuming for a week on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA, Sean Watts joined the field and had a strong night that saw him score an eighth place finish.
“I think we had an even better car than our results show, but I just made a mistake on the start and let a few cars by,” Sean Watts said. “I think racing in Chico a few times helped us out a ton, and now we look forward to racing with the World of Outlaws.”
Watts got his night kicked off by timing the Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction sprinter in 12th quickest in qualifying time trials, which was good enough to put him on the front row of his heat race.
From the pole of his heat, Watts was able to get the jump as he led the way aboard the Billet America/Kaeding Performance/Shannon Pumps No. 98. Leading from start to finish, Watts would take the heat race win and make his way to the six-lap Dash.
Lining up ninth in the Dash, the Atwater, CA native would better his starting position in the feature event by one row as a seventh place finish put him on the side of the fourth row for the 30-lap feature event.
When the race came to life, Watts would fall back outside the Top-10, which looked like it may be a problem with the racing surface narrow as most drivers used the bottom of the speedway.
As the race clicked off laps, Watts was able to work his way forward. Getting back inside the Top-10, Watts would get all he could as he took the checkered flag in the eighth position.
“It was a much better night than how some of our nights had gone,” Watts noted. “It was tough to really make up ground, so we will take the Top-10 and move on to the Gold Cup.”
