PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending his weekend competing at the Silver Dollar Speedway with his Menne Motorsports team, Sean Becker scored a second place finish on Friday night, before rallying to an 11th place finish on Saturday night during the Mini Gold Cup.
“Friday night, Lowell Moral prepared a very wide and racy track, and we were able to move forward, and contend for the win,” Becker said. “Saturday night turned into a bit of a test and tune session for us, but overall we were pleased with how things went.”
Friday night, Becker timed the Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Cherry Street Mini Storage/Menne Ranch Hay Inc. backed. No. 75 machine in fifth fastest amongst the 27 cars that were checked into the pit area.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, ‘The Shark’ would finish in the third spot, putting him directly into the feature event, where he would line up in the third row.
Getting into the third spot in the early stages of the main event, Becker charged after the lead duo of Rico Abreu and Andy Forsberg. After disaster struck Forsberg on the 12th lap, Becker did everything in his power to get by Abreu, but he came up just short, as he finished in the second spot.
Bringing out a new Maxim chassis on Saturday night for the Mini Gold Cup, Becker and his Menne Motorsports team went to work on the new car, as they continued to look for the speed at the speedway that they have grown accustomed to.
After timing in 24th quickest, Becker would finish ninth in his heat race, and have to make a trip to the night’s Last Chance Showdown. With his team continuing to try things, they hit on something for the LCS, as Becker was able to work forward from his seventh starting position to grab the fourth and final transfer position just a few feet from the checkered flag.
Lining up in the 11th row for the feature event, Becker would drift a little too high, and slide off the race track, forcing him to the back of the pack. Becker was able to do some moving and shaking during the 40-lap feature, before the rubber began going down on the track, as he was able to carve his way forward and score an 11th place finish.
“We rolled out a new car on Saturday night, and we struggled early, as we did not have the speed that we normally do at the Silver Dollar Speedway,” Becker said. “I cannot thank Dan Menne and his brother Tom, enough for their ability to make the adjustments to get us back to form so quickly. It’s that knowledge they have acquired through the years of dedicated experience that has made their race team so successful over the years, and I’m incredibly thankful to be a part of it.”
Becker would like to thank Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Cherry Street Mini Storage, Menne Ranch Hay Inc., Astro Titanium, Ponybracket.com, Shaver Racing Engines, FK Rod Ends, and K&N for their support in 2015.
