Second Place Run at Midget Madness Opener Highlights Three-Race Week for Tanner Carrick and KKM

PETERSEN MEDIA: Another strong week of racing with Keith Kunz Motorsports saw Tanner Carrick flirt with a win on Friday night only to come up just short and finish second at Merced Speedway to open the Midget Madness Double Header.

“Big thanks to the KKM guys for all of their hard work,” Tanner Carrick said. “We had a nice week of racing, and we were in a really good spot on Friday night.”

Friday night at Merced Speedway, Carrick would get his night underway by timing the Keith Kunz Motorsports/Toyota/TRD backed No. 98k machine in ninth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Heat race action saw Carrick continue to show speed on the racy bullring as a second-place finish put him on the front row of the 30-lap feature event.

With 50 Sprint Cars and 54 Midgets checked in on this night, the track held up extremely well as a very racy surface was offered up for the ‘A’.

From his front row starting position, Carrick would find himself battling with Daison Pursley in the opening laps of the feature. Leading the first eight laps of the feature event, Carrick would then feel pressure from Thomas Meseraul.

TMEZ would make a big move on the ninth lap that would put him in the lead and relegate Carrick back to third as he still battled with Pursley. In the closing laps, Carrick would capitalize on his teammate’s misfortune as he would end up in second, and on the podium when the checkered flag flew.

Back at Merced Speedway on Saturday night to close the 2020 USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series season, Carrick would time in 24th fastest on this night before picking up a third-place finish in his heat race.

Moving directly into the feature event, the Lincoln, CA driver would roll off the starting grid from the 21st starting position. Another racy surface would let Carrick work his way forward a bit, though it was still tough to get through dense traffic.

When the 30-lap feature drew to a close, Carrick would take the final checked flag of the year with the series in the 16th position.

The busy week of racing got kicked off on Tuesday night at the Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, CA. Returning to USAC action in California, Carrick would time in 11th fastest in time trials amongst the 46 entries and proceed to finish 6th in his heat race.

Missing out on the direct transfer into the feature event, Carrick would make a quick stop in a very talent heavy ‘B’ where his fifth-place finish would transfer him into the feature event.

Lining up 15th in the feature it would prove to be tough to get going on the tight confines of Bakersfield Speedway. Mired in heavy traffic, Carrick’s week got started off with a 19th place finish.

“I had a great time reuniting with the Keith Kunz team over the last couple of weeks, and again, really thanks all those guys for their hard work,” Carrick said.

Tanner Carrick would like to thank Keith Kunz Motorsports, Curb Records, Toyota, TRD, IWX, Mobil1, Walker Performance Filtration, and Wilwood for their support.
