Shane Golobic Captures Action Packed Silver Cup During the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster

(PETERSEN MEDIA- Chico, CA)- Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA, Shane Golobic survived thick lapped traffic and challenges from Mitchell Faccinto and Justin Sanders to capture the 2017 Silver Cup win, and move into sole possession of eighth all time in series wins with his eighth career triumph.

Lining up on the front row of the feature event alongside Faccinto, Freemont, CA pilot, Shane Golobic, would get the jump over Faccinto before cautions plagued the early goings of the event.

With stoppages coming on laps one, five, and eight, the race would get into it’s first extended green flag run finally, and single file restarts would see the leaders in lapped traffic extremely quick on an old school, rough and tumble, Silver Dollar Speedway racing surface.

In traffic, Golobic was extremely strong, but so was Faccinto, as the duo sliced and diced through traffic. Just past the halfway point, Faccinto would make a bid for the race lead in turns one and two as Golobic checked up behind a slower car, but the former series champion remained composed and answered the call to reclaim the top spot.

An exciting battle behind the race leaders would also heat up during this run as Kyle Hirst, Justin Sanders, Andy Forsberg, and Sean Becker all jockeyed for position in traffic with wheelies and bikes the norm on this Saturday night.

The action would be slowed on the 19th lap as Michael Kofoid coasted to a stop off of turn two, and the ensuing restart would breed the race’s final caution as Kyle Hirst came to a stop with a flat left rear tire after catching a rut wrong and doing everything but tipping his machine over.

Back underway, the final restart of the night would see Watsonville, CA driver, Justin Sanders, make quick work of Faccinto for the second spot and set his sights on Golobic, who had gotten away as the two battled for the second spot.

Able to catch Golobic, the crowd would come alive as the two renewed their rivalry and battled side-by-side for the race lead. Battling for prime real-estate, tight knit action would result in Sanders getting into the front stretch wall and letting Golobic get away.

With traffic now a factor, Sanders would make contact with a slower car as he tried to get back to Golobic and it would result in damage to his nosewing and he would have more problems in turns one and two and lose several positions.

A pair of former series champions, Sean Becker, and Andy Forsberg, were there to capitalize as they moved into the second and third spots. This night, however, belonged to Shane Golobic and the Keith Day Racing team, as they raced to the popular victory.

“I can’t say enough about this team,” Golobic said. “They always give me a great racecar, and its fun to race with them. The track was pretty tricky tonight, but it feels good to be standing in victory lane.”

Behind Golobic, Sean Becker would finish second, Forsberg, third, Faccinto fourth, and Mason Moore would round out the top-five and earn a $100 certificate to Smith Precision Products for his efforts.

Sander would rebound to finish seventh, Jason Statler eight, Kyle Hirst would come back from his late caution to finish ninth, and Michael Kofoid would do the same to round out the Top-10.

31 cars checked into the pit area to open the 27th season of action with the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster, and it was Shane Golobic earning quick time honors, and earning $100 certificate to DMI.

Four heat races were ran with wins going to Michael Ing, Sean Becker, Andy Forsberg, and Oregon driver, JJ Hickle. Each of those drivers were awarded $100 Certificates to Keizer Wheels.

Kenny Allen led all 12-laps to claim the B Main and earned $100 to Keizer Wheels. Tanner Carrick, Lucas Ashe, Koen Shaw, Dustin Freitas, and Tony Gualda joined him in the feature after claiming the six transfer spots.
