PETERSEN MEDIA- Shane Golobic and Tarlton Motorsports are proving to be a potent combination early in the 2018 season. Winning with the King of the West Series in early April during their first night out, Golobic and company return to action over the weekend and recorded second and third place finishes.
“We had another strong weekend in the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21x,” Shane Golobic said. “Landing on the podium in each of our first three nights together demonstrates how strong this team really is.”
Two nights of King of the West action saw the team check in at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway on Friday night. Timing the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino backed No. 21 machine in 12th quickest in qualifying time trials, the Fremont, CA pilot would line up on the front row of his heat race.
With a point structure determining Dash cars in 2018, Golobic would do all he could and pick up the win in hopes of earning a Dash berth. Coming up just short, Golobic would have his work cut out for him as he would find himself back in the sixth row for the 30-lap finale.
From the 12th starting position, Golobic’s experience at Ocean Speedway shined as he was extremely methodical in his charge to the front. Showing no mercy, Golobic would make some big moves as he cracked the Top-Five with 12-laps to go in the race.
Continuing to run strong, Golobic would capitalize on a couple of late cautions and would propel himself to a hard fought second place finish at the finish line.
Traveling to Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA on Saturday night for the third KWS event of 2018, Golobic would open his night up by timing in fifth quickest in qualifying time trials.
Finishing fourth in his heat race, Golobic would just narrowly miss out on the Dash and would find himself in the seventh starting spot for the 30-lap feature event.
On an uncharacteristic Thunderbowl Raceway that saw the bottom groove act as the primary lane, Golobic would do just as he did on Friday night and would work his potent Tarlton Motorsport machine forward.
With the lead duo getting away, Golobic would do a great job of working by the lieks of DJ Netto to take over the final spot on the podium.
Chasing after Kyle Hirst and Bud Kaeding, Golobic would cap another great weekend with Tarlton Motorsports with a third place finish.
“Paul Baines and I seem to work very well together, and it has me really excited for the season ahead,” Golobic added. “I made a few mistakes this weekend, and if I can clean those things up we will be pretty tough to beat. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with Paul, Tom and Tommy Tarlton, and everyone else associated with the Tarlton Motorsports team.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 3, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 3, Top 10’s: 3.
