Shane Golobic Second at Summer Nationals

PETERSEN MEDIA- Time and time again this season Shane Golobic and Tarlton Motorsports have found themselves up front and in the hunt with the King of the West Series and the same was true on Saturday night as Golobic picked up a second place finish during the Summer Nationals at Placerville Speedway.

“We were quick again,” Shane Golobic said. “We started fourth and got up to second in traffic and Justin Sanders (leader) was kind of checked out. We got a yellow, which we needed, and I was able to get a couple runs on him but other yellows flew and kind of didn’t work in our favor. I think we were just as good as him, but he didn’t make any mistakes to let us by.”

Timing the Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales/Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino backed No. 21x entry in fourth quickest in qualifying time trials, the Fremont, CA pilot would finish third in his heat race.

Acquiring enough points to earn a berth in the Dash, Golobic would grid the field from fifth before earning a fourth place finish which lined the Elite Landscape Construction/Yokut Gas/Pabco Gypsum machine up in the second row of the 30-lap feature event.

When the race came to life, Golobic would quickly work into the third position as he chased after Colby Copeland and Justin Sanders who ran ahead of him. With the bottom extremely fast in the opening laps of the race, passing would be tough but traffic would soon come into play and change the race’s dynamic.

Amidst a 20-lap non strop green flag run, Golobic would use traffic to get by Colby Copeland and take over the second position. The first restart of the night would see Golobic stick with Sanders, but another stoppage would slow his pace, and another on the following restart would keep him in second.

Continuing to run strong in second, Golobic would close in on Sanders in the final laps when the leaders got back into traffic, but would be unable to do much as he closed his night with his 13th Top-Five of the season in the potent No. 21x entry.

“It is great to be back on the podium but you always want to be a spot better than second,” Golobic said. “Paul Baines and Tyrone always seem to give me a quick car and hopefully we can continue to run well after the Knoxville break. Thanks again to Tom and Tommy Tarlton for allowing me to drive for them and to all of these partners for supporting us.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Yokut Gas, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 14, Wins: 3, Top 5’s: 13, Top 10’s: 14.

ON TAP: Golobic now turns his attention to Knoxville, IA for the 360 and 410 Nationals and all of us at Tarlton Motorsports wish him the very best of luck. Golobic will retrun to the seat of the Tarlton Motorsports entry when King of the West action resumes on October 6th at Kern County Raceway Park the site of the teams first win together.
