PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting another week to get the Hopkins Racing No. 21 machine dialed in, Shane Hopkins would have a much better weekly opener at Placerville Speedway as he pocketed an 11th place finish on Saturday night.
“It is pretty cool getting our family car out and running,” Shane Hopkins said. “It was kind of last minute last week, so to have another week of preparation was nice and I think it was definitely a step in the right direction.”
With 27 cars on hand, Hopkins timed the ARP/ADCO/Capitol Ace Hardware machine in 14th quickest in qualifying time trials. Good enough for the front row of his heat race, Hopkins would lead early as he had his hands full with Sean Becker.
Needing the win to qualify for the redraw, Becker would ultimately get the best of Hopkins as he would settle for second and move directly into the 25-lap feature event.
Lining up in the 14th starting position for the first points race of the 2019 season, Hopkins would get off to a nice start as he quickly jumped up into the 11th position where he would run during the race’s opening 14 lap green flag run.
Taking over 10th when the race resumed, a hard fought battle would see the Cameron Park, CA native fall back to 12th on the 15th lap and back up to 10th on the 16th lap.
In a tight battle to keep himself inside the Top-10, Hopkins would fall back to 11th on the 21st lap and would go on to finish there despite one final restart on the 24th lap.
“Big thanks to the family crew for all of their help,” Shane Hopkins said. “My dad, Cody, Taylor and everyone worked really hard all night long. Also want to give an extra thanks to ARP, ADCO, and Capitol Ace Hardware for all they do for our team.”
Hopkins would like to thank ARP, ADCO, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Brian Sperry Racing, Capitol ACE Hardware, El Dorado Disposal, Gary Morgan Graphics, Jake Morgan Racing, Johnson Motorsports, MD Builders, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Image Salon and Spa, Axcel Suits, PT Shocks, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Kyle Johnson Racing, and Petersen Media for their support in 2019.
2019 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-2, Wins-0, Top-5’s-0, Top 10’s-0
