Shane Hopkins Battles Through ‘B’ at SCCT Opener

PETERSEN MEDIA- Kicking his Rookie of the Year campaign with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour off on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Shane Hopkins battled hard through the ‘B’ Main before recording a 17th place finish in the feature event.

“It was our first night in a new car, and overall I was pleased with how it felt and how the night went,” Shane Hopkins said. “We had some engine issues that we also worked through but once we got those figured out things went pretty well for us.”

Hopkins opened the 2018 season up by timing the Moxie Mechanical/Morris Concrete/TNT Powdercoat No. 97 machine in fifth quickest in his qualifying group and found himself in the third row of his heat race.

Chasing after Tony Gualda for the final transfer spot out of his heat race, Hopkins would end up with a sixth place finish and found himself on the front row of the 15-lap ‘B’ Main event.

With some heavy hitters behind him in the semi, Hopkins would not flinch as he laid down some great laps right through the middle of the speedway. Getting faster lap after lap, Hopkins would leave the field in his wake as he cruised to the win and extended his night.

By way of his ‘B’ Main win, the Cameron Park, CA native would find himself in the 21st starting position for the 35-lap SCCT opening night feature event.

Making some quick changes following the ‘B’, Hopkins would continue to run well against some stout competition. Able to make up some ground on a tricky racing surface, Hopkins would battle up to a 17th place finish when the race came to a close.

“It was great to get back in the car, and to make the feature our first night out,” Hopkins added. “It was a busy winter for us, and I have to thank everyone that helped out and who is helping us make this entire year possible.”

Hopkins and Moxie Motorsports would like to thank Moxie Mechanical, Morrison Concrete, TNT Powdercoat, LRB Ent., ADCO Driveline, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Capital Ace Hardware, Johnson Motorsports, American River Overhead, Gary Morgan Graphics, and ART Enterprises for their support in 2018.
