Shane Hopkins Hard Charges at Nor Cal Posse Shootout

PETERSEN MEDIA- Racing into both feature events over the weekend with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Placerville Speedway, Shane Hopkins would earn hard charger honors on Saturday night after lining up in the 24th starting position and racing his way to 13th place finish.

“It was a decent weekend for us,” Shane Hopkins said. “Saturday night we kind of got lucky and moved into the feature event, and once we were in the show we did a nice job of moving forward.”

Friday night saw a total of 41 cars checking into Placerville Speedway to open up the Nor Cal Posse Shootout, and Hopkins would get his weekend kicked off by timing the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat machine in fifth quickest in his qualifying group.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, the 2018 Placerville Speedway Rookie of the Year would finish sixth and be forced to make a trip to the ‘B’ Main. Running third in the semi, Hopkins would punch his ticket into the feature event where he would roll off the starting grid from the 23rd position.

On a slicked off surface, Hopkins would find some grip as he slowly worked his way forward. Still taking on some of the best in the business the first year driver would finish 17th.

Saturday night’s finale saw a couple of more cars check into to bump the entries up to 44. Timing in fifth fastest again on this night, Hopkins would battle with Blake Carrick for the final transfer into the feature event and his sixth place finish would put him in the 15-lap ‘B’ Main.

Running in fourth for much of the race, Hopkins would see Jodie Robinson dive underneath him and take away the final transfer position. Unable to get by, Hopkins’ fifth place finish would leave him on the outside looking in as the first alternate.

Having a little luck, Hopkins would then find himself in the feature as the alternate position would come in handy. Lining up 24th, Hopkins would do another great job of racing his way forward on a very slick racing surface.

Working his way forward, Hopkins would be the night’s KSE Hard Charger as he advanced from 24th to finish 13th.

“We lucked out and made it into the big dance, and we had a really good car that went forward,” Hopkins added. “Big thanks to Vern for continuing to give me a great opportunity and to all the guys who roll their sleeves up and help me out week after week.”

Hopkins and Moxie Motorsports would like to thank Moxie Mechanical, Morrison Concrete, TNT Powdercoat, LRB Ent., ADCO Driveline, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Capital Ace Hardware, Johnson Motorsports, American River Overhead, Americote Painting, Gary Morgan Graphics, and ART Enterprises for their support in 2018.
