PETERSEN MEDIA- After a tough trip to Silver Dollar Speedway to take part in a couple of 360 events during the 65th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions, Shane Hopkins and the Moxie Motorsports team are focused on finishing what they started at Placerville Speedway.
“It was fun to get up and run in Chico, but our results weren’t what we wanted,” Shane Hopkins said. “With some fun behind us, it is back to business Saturday night at Placerville Speedway as we look to complete some of our pre season goals.”
Racing with the Civil War Series on Wednesday night in Chico, Hopkins would open the night up by timing the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat backed No. 97 entry in 20th fastest amongst the 46 cars checked into the feature event.
Finishing fifth in his heat race, the Cameron Park, CA driver would just miss out on transferring into the feature event and would be forced into the semi. Taking the green flag from the third row, Hopkins would find himself in a lap two pile-up that would force him to the back of the pack.
With 10-laps to get back into the top-six, Hopkins would give it all he had but would come up short as he would close his night out in 13th.
Thursday night a unique format was in place for the first Platinum Cup and Hopkins’ night would get started out in a bit of hole after time trials.
Finishing seventh in his heat race after lining up 10th, Hopkins would move into the semi where he would keep moving forward as he worked from 16th to finish 11th which would end his 2018 Gold Cup.
“Thursday night we were racy, we just needed some more ponies with the way the track was,” Hopkins said. “Still, I am appreciative for the opportunity to race, and am thankful for what Vern Morrison, my family, and our partners do. Really looking forward to Saturday night.”
