PETERSEN MEDIA- Shane Hopkins came away from Saturday night’s race in Placerville, CA with a smile. Amidst his Rookie season at the track, Hopkins would score a fourth place finish behind Steven Tiner, Jimmy Trulli, and Andy Forsberg.
“To finish fourth behind a trio like that is pretty cool,” Shane Hopkins said. “I made some mistakes in time trials that cost us, but my team worked hard to give me a good car and it is pretty cool to get a Top-Five.”
Hopkins timed the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat backed No. 97 entry in 11th quickest in qualifying time trials.
With the track still plenty fast in heat race action, the Cameron Park, CA driver would start sixth and finish fifth during his heat race which placed him in the ninth starting position for the 25-lap feature event.
From the fifth row, Hopkins would take a liking the to the middle groove of the speedway, as he was unable to make the low groove work. Running inside the Top-10 from the race’s onset, Hopkins would hold down the eighth position, until briefly slipping back to ninth on a lap 12 restart.
Jumping up to seventh on a lap 14 restart, Hopkins would take advantage of a couple of issues that happened in front of him as he found himself in the fifth spot late in the race. The final restart would see the Rookie of the Year hopeful move into fourth as he chased after Andy Forsberg for the final position on the podium.
Unable to track down the veteran, Hopkins closed his night out with a great run from ninth to fourth.
“We have a great group that helps us out week in and week out, and I truly could not do it without all of them so I have to extend a huge thank you,” Hopkins added.
